My nephew had a tc for a few days (until the loan didn't go through because he didn't have enough credit at the time). When I drove it, my impression was that it would make a good commuter but the fun factor just wasn't there for me. All the controls just felt so numb compared to the Si and the seats didn't have nearly enough lateral support to hold you in while cornering.

I guess I don't really think it is stupid. We have members on here who have an R18 Civic (non-Si) and a K20 (Si) Civic. The tC competes with the R18 (when it isn't supercharged), so I see it as a win-win. Both are nice cars.
