I'm not sure on the full throttle thing, however I can claim that mashing the pedal to the floor or just backing off a bit really doesn't make much of a difference; so there might be something to that.
As far as MPG, the Civic should get much better highway mileage with your everyday average driving. On a road trip from CT to Florida going between 75-80 w/ stop and go for about 2 hours in Virginia (on both trips, grrrr) I got about low 35mpg. I'm sure if I dropped the speed down by 10-15mph it would've been a lot better, many eco-drivers on Fitfreak.net get in the 40s for mpg. Around the city though it's really no contest between the two cars. Also remember, the L15 engine has been around since the beginning of the Fit (2001), so all the gas saving is just based on the fact that it's small. Whereas the R18 is much more advanced as far as being efficient. So about the comment on the 2nd gen Fits, that MPG is pretty believable since it's still a small 1.5 liter but now with a lot of the technologies that went into the R18. |

I think it's fair to say the fit is better than the yaris, but wouldn't you consider it's competition to be the scion xA/xD? How do you think it compares?
My GF has an '06 xA which she loves, but I think the interior isn't as polished as my civic. Seems a lot cheaper and more plastic-y looking. |

Edmonds had a compare of the Fit vs xD: Comparison Test: 2007 Honda Fit Sport vs. 2008 Scion xD Results is the Fit has about 5 more cubic feet of storage space, and is slightly more efficient. The xD has more power and gets going slightly quicker. |

Right but the reasoning is because the Si is more sporty, made to be driven hard. The R18 non-Si is an economy car, made for better fuel efficiency. The Fit, until the next model, didn't have a sportier model. Now there is the Fit Sport, so you'll hear that next.

Interesting thread. Funny thing is, I've been thinking about the Fit a lot lately.
I don't mind the look of it, then again, I didn't mind the "mini-bus" a.k.a EP3s... But I am female, so apparently I'm allowed to like mini-vanish things. Anyhoo, my reasoning to switch out of the Si and to a Fit would be somewhat similar to Nighthawk's. My Si is leased, the lease will end next summer (2009). When that happens, I can either buy it out, or trade up, for which I've been thinking I'd trade for a Fit. I don't think I will be financially able to keep this car, but that is a bridge I'd have to cross when I get there. But the Fit is cute, mod-able, and quite versatile. For financial or space reasons, I can understand trading up. It is the new wave of econo-box, like the Civic used to be. |

Unless I was going to get another Si or maybe a hybrid, I'd definitely get a Fit. I love the storage space, transmission, looks, and price. I've been eying the 2009 Fit, which I'd love to see in person. I think the Fit is a great car, and one of the better looking hatches from Honda in the last 10 years.
