First new car paid by ME

My si sedan is my first new car paid by me. No parents on this one. Insurance and registration all in my name. Best of all no cosigner needed. I am quite happy about this purchase. I was initially trying to avoid having the insurance under my name before I turned 25 so I didn't have to pay super high rates being from the great state of new jersey. Turns out that Geico stands for Government Employee insurance company and I get a discount for being federal employee.

I'm 23 and recently graduated from college. I was a poor college student and couldn't afford my own car.

I want to see who else out there pays for your own cars and how old are you?

Just turned 22 a couple days ago.

I purchased a '97 civic last january for $4000, and payed cash. Then at the end of December, I purchased a '06 honda civic Si. This is the first loan I have gotten. I didn't need a co-signer, put down $5000, and got a $16000 loan.

EDIT: Insurance is $138/month BTW

Congrats!
Mind if I ask what you do? A federal employee makes me think of CIA workers to postal workers. Plus, anything government related can get interesting.

I am far from being able to pay for a car :[ Another 5 years at the very least, I'd say.

The young members who pay all of the costs to own and operate a car deserve a thumbs up!

I was fortunate to have a very good job while I was a high school junior, which allowed me to buy a new car, and pay all of my own associated costs.

Way to go!

I had just turned 23. Civic with a Mugen kit. Took out a loan for about $20,000 and paid the rest - about $3000 - in cash. I'm paying roughly $500 a month over 4 years in repyaments. Insurance works out to about $70-80 per month.

Bought my first car at 16 by myself and paid my own insurance.
Bought my next one at 21, then 22, also 23, and 24....

I'm 25 now. I've paid for all my own cars, no cosigners, paid own insurance and maintenance, rent, etc.

No tickets or accidents either.

I had my parents buy me my car but i put down $7000

Im graduating May 30th. Im the youngest in my grade lol. Turning 18 June 3rd. I know its weird.

The only reason my parents paid for most of my car is because I got a scholarship to college and because when I go to college im not going to live on campus, im coming home at night. So I need a reliable car to get me there and back anyway. And they save alot of money every year like that. So after all of it they end up spending alot less
