I was told the dealership would have to run a credit check to make sure I could afford my car before I could test drive it.

I thought that went for any "higher end" type car. My buddy went to three different dealers to test drive an STI, but he had to get a credit check.

That was a waste of a day.

credit checks are stupid
just cuz you have bad or no credit does not mean you cant afford the car
just because you have good credit doesnt mean you can
but i guess modern society is based firmly on credit
which to me just means banks own everything
that doesnt sit well with me
but oh well

That was a waste of a day.
for my bday last year my gf almost decided to call up all the luxury dealers and schedule test drives for me - you know, like ferrari, porsche, maserati, bentley, etc :)

that would have been fun.

Depends on the car you are driving, my buddy had a Cayenne S in college, and we had no trouble going for test drives in just about any car he wanted. I also have noticed far more willingness to let me drive BMW/Mercedes/Audis without me asking now that I have my Si

One time i went to a Infinity dealer with my friend to help him buy a used STI that they had on the lot.
i asked him like 3 times is this car clean? no mods? he's like its bone STOCK. . .
we got the car . . . three days later my friend came by and was like nice . . you swaped out the springs on ur STI eh?
we were like wtf? its not stock?
we called them back and went to the dealer . . they were like well . . we didn't know that was not STOCK . . its Subaru . . how should we know

when my parents were buying their subaru outback back in 2003, they were looking at the car and they shut the trunk and the dealer says calmly, "can you open the trunk again, my fingers stick in it." an my parents thought it was a joke and chuckled, so the guys like "no, really, my fingers in the trunk." and sure enough it was...

Dealer told me him and his buddies vtech the car as soon as it gets of the truck to warm it up for the customers. He said the car is broken in from factory so on every test drive he vtecs. I told him that I would rather order one and he said "I understand". As I was doing the paperwork a "delivery" came in and magically they had a brand new Alabaster silver metallic Si in stock!!! Thats my baby. After I got it, I could careless what dumb shit the dealer said, I just drove.

I thought of another one.. FBP Si coupe w/ Navi for 28.5K OTD. I laughed my way out of that dealership, but cried my way out of two other dealers that told me the same thing.. bastards didn't want to deal because everyone would pay that much!

Wow, I hate Subaru, the guy said he doesn't have any Sti's when he had 3 on the lot in front of his eyes. After pointing them out he said I would need a $5,000 deposit on the vehicle in order to test drive it. Thats when I laughed got in my car and drove off.
