actually most of my experience at the two honda lots ive been good
the place i got mine i went and said i wanted a white coupe no navi (didnt care either way with tranny)
he took me to a Si
i didnt specify either way
i guess he assumed being 18 i wanted the Si
smart guy
but he was around 25 himself and he said he had one
also at the other place a salesman let me test drive a ex with navi just because i wanted to see how the navi worked
i told him i didnt want the car
just to drive it
i already told that in an earlier post
but sometimes you just gotta find the right salesman

Me: " uh, i can still come here to service my car. you did know that right? "

salesman: " umm, yeah... so what can we do to sell you this car?

what an IDIOT!

Well this is what happened when I went to go buy my car. To get to Honda I had to pass through the pre-owns. Well when passing a pre-owned car salesmen was trying to talk me out of getting a new car. Here is a long story short of how it went:

Salesmen: Why are you going to buy a new car, its going to depreciate immediately when you roll off the lot. Why don't you have a look at some of our pre-owned.

Me: I want a new car and I am looking at the new Si. I also want warrinty

Salesmen: Well some of these car's have warranty.

Me: I know, but I am looking at a Si, and I dont see any used one's.

Salesmen: Well I have a bunch of civics right here. There just as good

(Shows me some R18's)

Me: But they dont come with the K

Salesmen: Yes they do! Let me pop the hood for you

(Salesmen pops hood, BAM there is a R18 in it)

Me: Thats an R18, not a K20. Your telling me that it has a K20 in it?

Salesmen: Yep

( I walk away and go find the new Si's)

I doubt a salesmen would promote used car sales over new car sales unless he was a used car salesmen. New cars is where the money is at man, and they want to sell you them. This is a first.

dont you hate how you cant talk with salesman about cars? i dont know much about cars, and i still notice..
You will learn evenutally what to say and what not to say to salesman. They don't care... They just want to sell you the damn honk of metal.

Actually depending on how the cars are acquired there is often more profit margins in used cars than there are in new cars.

I freakin hate car salemen. They never know what the hell they are talking about! When Mitsukaisi asked a salesman years ago now what the different was between vtec and ivtec he had no freakin clue! It pisses me off that they don't know anything about the cars that they are selling. Its a good thing that on our part the cars sale theirselves! Best part is that they got a tech, a shop manager, and head tech... and still couldn't anwswer the question!!!!! seriously do you have to have a tard card to sale hondas!?!!!!!

Well he was promoting them. I think he was specifically in pre-owned. So that would explain him promoting it.

oh man i don't know what I'm going to do when i decide to get rid of my car...

OK heres the plan. once there is a car out i want I'm going to get a job as a salesman and sell it to myself... let me go over the qualifications...

-Half a brain, CHECK, CHECK!

OK GOOD TO GO... surly if i can talk myself into a job then i can sell a "hunk of metal"

I'm in the car business... went from sales, to fleet, to sales manager, and now Finance director...

Average profit from a new car... (excluding holdback, incentives, etc) just the gross profit salesman make... -$300 to $1200 ( $2000 is a homerun) All new cars have the same starting point - Factory invoice. We can all find that info on the internet...

Average profit from used: $1500 - $4500 used cars have different starting points... so you never know how much they're in it for. Two identical models, mileage, color, everything... and the cost can vary by thousands...

When you sell cars... you're taught first thing is... there's money in used...

Before I got into the car business... I thought all salesman were scum bags...
I still kind of do... alot of them are... but when you sell cars.. you meet a lot of scum bags as customers also... vice versa... tit for tat...

it's a vicious cycle... salesmen would be so shady if buers weren't so difficult... buyers wouldn't be so difficult if salesmen weren't so shady...

That happened to you too? It seemed about 75% of all the salesmen I dealt with just started and the only thing they were able to rattle off was "<insert auto maker here> is the best in value and reliability, <insert auto maker here> makes the safest cars and notice how you see more <insert auto maker here> on the road than ever?"

yeah, I knew more about the Si's than the salesmen AND the sales manager at the HONDA I bought the car from when I did. It's amazing how clueless they are.

Well I am talking about from the standpoint of the lease option. Dealers can offer a lease option on any new car and make basically pure profit and on top of that sell it used and make some profit again. It would make sense the profit margin is higher but I would assume that if they have a 70K vehicle on the lot it would be more of a burden on the dealership just because they spent more to purchase that new car, and at times they may not have funding to get some other models. And your telling me you make only $400-$2000 dollars on a used car???A buddy of mine told me they are making $3000 grand on the Si selling it at 22K. He said he would give me $917 off because he is a top salesman which he did. Also there is much more room for negotiation in a used car which is obvious, so if you start with a $5K profit margin, it would be less of problem to reduce that by $3K just because you know used cars come and go. How often does a Si show up on lots? Not very often. When it does come it sells, and the dealer can't cut off to much from the stickier just because they know it will sell and they can sell it for full MSRP. The fact that used cars come and go allows for more sales, but pure profit is questionable.
