Got a good one here:

My pops was looking at buying a merc sl500. The salesman told us the 2005 sl500 had 400HP and 400Ft/lb or torque. I corrected him with saying 306HP and he just looked at me funny, like I was crazy. He then looked at my dad and said "aren't sons funny, they think they know everything". My dad replied "he doesn't know everything, but he knows cars, and I'd say he knows this one better than you".

At the same dealership the next day we had the same salesman try to convince us that torque came from the high end of the power band. I said "what do you mean, torque is low end power, and horsepower figures come from high in the power band." He said "actually with this car it has lots of torque all over (which could be true), and even at the top of the power band it has more torque than Hp (which is never true). I enlightened him on dyno curves and the "magic" 5252 rpm number (below 5252 rpm any engine's torque number will always be higher than its horsepower number, and above 5252 rpm any engine's horsepower number will always be higher than its torque number. At 5252 rpm the horsepower and torque numbers will be exactly the same.)

My dad and I just looked at each other and walked outta there. Nothing worse than an uninformed salesman, who is also disrespectful. My pops ended up getting an sl55 amg from the dealership across town which had a super cool salesman (who was also very knowledgeable).

It's quite amusing. My friend has a Spec V and I try to get him to get the G meter to move. It seems that they can pick out which meters to have too.

not sure how the topic came up, but i mentioned to the salesman when buying/ordering my car earlier this year that to replace the sound system i would have to order a dash piece with the hole already cut in it.. he looked at me with a rude puzzling look and said "why would you want to do anything to the sound system?".. he said it as if he has never heard of putting in an aftermarket sound sytem in his life.. btw this salesman of mine was a complete asshole, and i got him in trouble last month when i told his superior that this guy told me he would hunt down the remotes i forgot in my cougar, and then i find out he didnt do jack for 2 days, and time was a huge issue

The salesman at my local honda dealership told me i did not need to let the engine break in and that i could go do 200km/h on the highway right away with not problem. I did not take his word for it...

My brother just bought a mazda 3 and the saleman told him that he could redline it off the lot (I agree). He just mentioned that my brother should not keep the car at one speed (use cruise control) and not to do hard braking for the first 500 miles.

my not so funny experience with the dealer was when i asked him about the mugen, he told me there was only 250 built and i was like um i thought it was 1000 made, he said no, "there was suspose to be 1000 but honda decided to stop them at 250 to make them rare" im like ok... Another thing was with the third gear issue (like in the previous post), i said to him that honda has a problem with the third gear popping out on the si's, i asked him would they cover it when the time comes, he looked at me like a retard and said "nah if honda had that problem, someone would have come back with that problem and plus honda is too professonal for anything like that to happen". im like ok, ill be back to get the car, and i went somewhere else and bought it and didnt go back to that stealership.

Based on experience and common sense, aren't you supposed to go easy on th engine for the first few hundred km or miles? I wouldn't red line it off the lot...

screw what everyone else says, im breaking mine in by the way Honda wants me to. but after about 150 miles your suspose to get down on it twice (to set the rings) then take it easy for the rest of the break in period. Honda says to take it easy for the full 600 miles, but knowing exactly how engines work, u need to get down on it no more than 2 times in order to set the rings. so thats how im breaking mine in.

my story is pretty good..

i was looking for a nhbp fg2 w/navi and nothing else.
this one dealer said they had one so i went to go check it out.

when i got there they had a nhbp fg2 with mud guards, all season floor mats and NO NAVI.

i was kinda ticked off but tried to make a deal with them and see what price they would give me.

the floormats and mud guards added $1000 to the price... (i know wtf)
so i told them i didnt want them and to take it off.

HERES THE PUNCHLINE...
"sorry we can't. it will take too much time and we already paid a tech to install those parts on the car, we would have to pay him again to remove them."

they wouldnt budge so i told them to pound sand and left.

The engines are broken in at the factory, redlining them off the lot will not hurt them and may help with the piston ring sealing. Most knowledgeable dealers will confirm this. The manufacturers recommend taking it easy for 600 miles because of the clutch and brakes.

About a year after owning my fg2, i was in the market to upgrade to an fa5. So we went to the dealership and after his initial pitch ( which was more like a rehersed acceptance speech) he told me he was going to go see what he had on the lot available for a test drive....He comes back and says he was a tw 4 door si, but not in a 6 speed, in an automatic. So i tap my friend on the arm to get his attention and i tell the guy " perfect, bring her around " then i look at my buddy and explain to him that they don't make automatic si's and he starts crackin up. 10 minutes go by, and homeboy walks around front with an r18 parked out front, we just smiled and politely left

A long time ago, when the Plymouth Prowler first came out, my friend, his parents and I were at a dealership killing time. We were taken to look at the Prowler and thats when I noticed it was an automatic. The salesman asked me if I liked the car, and I told him no because it was an auto.

The salesman said: "You can't be too picky when your paying $70,000+ for a car."

WUT?

Apparently he's not lying. The car has no balls and has the interior of a stratus, with the price of a Benz. I guess he's right since people actually bought them.
