I went in to my dealer to do a Mobile One Synthetic oil change. After 45 minutes, the mechanic and service advisor said that they could not do the oil change because they didn’t carry 5W30, and that the Si actually takes 5W20 which they had. I told them no it does not, and to look at the oil cap. After looking at my oil cap, they said they had to “special order” the oil.

If Honda mechanics know this little about Hondas, I'm afraid to ask how much regular auto shops know

Actual Honda "mechanics" know a shitload. It's the cost cutting of the service dept. that makes them look like morons. they divide up the jobs. They send the least profitable jobs to low wage hourly employees and send the high profit jobs to real mechanics. What ends up being is that customers usually talk to or get word from the low wage employees that dont know shit. The real mechanics are too busy working to talk to (mostly) uneducated customers.

I take the side of the real mechanics b/c when you look at it, if you spend 20-30 THOUSAND dollars on something as important as your daily transportation and safety, you should at LEAST know the oil, type of gas, tire type, etc. One time, while working at a dealership, I got a call from a lady who told me her dipstick was halfway low so she added 2 quarts of water to her oil. I had to beg her not to drive off from the gas station.

it IS worth the time to correct! you should have said "ill buy this car on the spot if its twin turbo, and i will pay sticker for it".. then when he checks, ask him why he told you it was twin.. when he says "i thot it was" tell him you shouldnt tell customers things that you are "kinda sure" of, as that was a $1000+ mistake you just made, and you could come off as a liar to some people instead of just misinformed

Buddy told me that the GTi is what I shoulda got because it has more low end torque and blabbed on about how its german and what not. Told him that while VW is a respected auto company, the GTi isn't their top range product. Anyhow, thought I'd go in for a test drive, showed up in the Si and the sales rep said nice car and what not, I told him that I might be interested in trading for a GTi and what not and asked if I could take it for a test drive. He said sure, comes back and said he just read that the GTi beat a 911 Carrera S in the quarter mile. I argued for a bit and it ended with him telling me to look it up on my own time. I shoulda went ahead and told I'll buy the car on the spot full MSRP if it truly is faster than a Carrera S but at this point why bother. We get in and he said that he should drive at first just because the civic is an automatic and I might not be used to manual. Told me its a sports tranny with a great clutch blah blah. He asked me 4 times whether I'd be o.k driving it because my Civics an automatic, I play along so he thinks my civic is an automatic. Told him I've never driven manual and its my first time. He explains to me. I start the car and I'm off, engage it perfectly under 1K rpms and upshift perfectly, heel and toe rev match downshift for every stop light and I hit the handbrake and trailed braked in order to save myself from taking a turn I take at the same speed in my FA5 sedan every time. Come back told him that If he hadn't figured out already, the Si is a manual and that this isn't as good and finally that I'm never coming back to this dealership again. I said franky it didn't provide the experience that my Sedan Si provides. Told him not to lie to me about a real german car (porsche) either. 2 weeks later I see him working at the Honda division of the dealership (its Don Jacobs Honda, VW and BMW).

When I was first looking at an Si in Nov '06 I was told that the FBP Navi I was looking at was marked up to $27k because "only 5000 Si's are made a year!" Hmmmm...I see at least three Si's a day so I guess I've seen a good portion of the 5000 and they're all in Virginia.

sometimes i regret making this thread (not really) because this stuff pisses me off so much.. how do you not need to know that the si only comes in manual when you work at or next to a honda dealer? i dont understand.. a few people on here have explained to me that you dont even need to know the basics to sell a car, which means that 90% of customers must be retarded.. a few posts in this thread talk about how "the si doesnt come with navi" or "doesnt come in color xyz", even tho those are basic things any customer would want to know.. if they dont know about the engine, the hp, the torque, how fast it is, how to not compare it to cars much faster than it, and they dont even know what features come with which models, which is auto and which is manual, and on and on, then what do they know or need to know to sell the car?

can somebody explain to me how all the things i just listed are not needed to sell a car? either 1. people are exaggerating/lying on here 2. these idiot salesman in this thread are only a small small portion of salesman 3. im not understanding why all this information is not needed to sell a car.. if you ask me, it would seem that you would be able to sell a hell of a lot more cars if you were smart and all the salesman around you didnt know crap, because a lot of people (especially old fashioned) would rather buy a car from a knowledgeable respectable salesman even if they already know which car they want to buy

sorry for the long post, but this just pisses me off that salesman dont know much about the ONLY products they sell.. its not like they work at a department store and we are asking them a really specific question about one of their 10000 items

I went to the dealership for a "special" zip tie for the harness that secures it self to the battery post. After he told me $4.85 for a zip tie...I told him pass.

As I walked out to my car, a salesman says: "It looks like your warranty is voided you better trade it in for a new one with warranty." I didn't know what to say. I was thinking, "Hey idiot! What makes you think my warranty is "voided" and if I did trade it in, what the f**k makes you think I wont mod it again"
