damn that sucks, the salesman at our dealer took one of my friends out in one of the sti's to the desert to do some offroading, an they took it to around 120mph on the highway. when i heard that i wanted to rush over there and test one too...

have you all seen the video on youtube where the two guys go drive the piss out of a used mustang and really give the salesman the run over
this is why they dont trust young men with cars
its sad but i dont blame
it takes one or two to ruin things

my buddy and i test drove a new eclipse with the dealer sitting in the back seat.

as we turn out of the dealership he says to us, "now, when we get on the highway, you do whatever the **** you want, man"

so my buddy takes it up to 85.

"what are you, a pansy??""

my buddy takes it to 95.

"a had an 70 year old test drive this thing...even SHE got it up to 100!"

my buddy takes it to 110.

"pussssssy"

125.

"dat's right man, push that foot down!"

135.

"shit man you gonna run outta road!"

im glad i created this thread, but reading some of these stories is like watching the show cops, it makes me so mad; i wish more of you guys would prove these salesman wrong instead of just saying no thanks and walking away or whatever.. i read so many posts where the salesman would claim something outrageous, but the poster didnt call them on it, they just said ok and walked away.. you may be laughing inside, but he is going to use that same bogus crap on another customer and they are going to be tricked into buying the car thinking the civic si has a v6 or can blow away a corvette or something..

edit: it would be awsome if when the salesman makes an outrageous claim, you tell him "how about this, if this car does have a v6 (or whatever he claims), i will buy it on the spot, but if it doesnt, i will go to another dealer.." *pops hood* "sorry man, im looking for somebody who knows at least the basics about the car im buying, bye"

seriously....id hate saying " You are wrong " to a Salesman.....a person making a livelihood.

Im sorry!

but it is up to the buyer to learn their shit....instead of being convinced by some person who doesnt know.

do salesman realize that if they knew all the technical shit about what they were selling they would sell more? do you know how many people would buy it just because he said something technical? i dont understand the logic of not knowing the product you are selling.. when an old lady comes in, you sell the civic as if its luxurious and safe, but when a kid comes in, you start spitting out track times, engine, etc.. i wonder what % of cars sold in the usa are sold mainly due to the convincing of the salesman (as opposed to the car selling itself, internet research, etc).. sounds like its about 9%

The deal on the Mercedes...I believe it... that's because you went in educated and negotiated well... KUDOS...

But if an uninformed person goes in...pays "sticker" for the new car... and pays..."asking" for the used car... and there are people who pay asking for used cars... more than one would think...

I'm just trying to inform you guys on the inside knowledge... that's all... been doing this for 12 years... I thought you guys would appreciate it... sorry...
well i learned something new, and now that i think about it, it makes sense that old cars sell for more, because old cars have so many variables to determine the price, but with new cars, the dealer cant say "ya but that car has 3000 more miles, thats why its that much cheaper"

I think she also mentioned the Corolla has more HP and was by far sportier than the current 8thgen civic. This was the 07 Corolla...
when you say 50+, surely your not talking years? you think the civic and corolla last 50+ years? i assure you no car will last that long (watch, somebody will give some extremely rare example like "my grampa still has a 1956 blah blah blah")

my friend has an 07 corolla s (is there a difference between "type-s" and "s"?) and it has 140 hp and he says its slow.. he claims it has ivtec and that its an "ss".. i said dude ive seen your car, ive ridden in it, what are you talking about? hes like let me go check (we are talking online) and he comes back and is like yup it says ivtec and its an ss.. he was so serious too

the 21 year old salesman first honda dealer i went to (valley honda) said that even tho i dont know how to drive a stick, i can still test drive it, but i need my license.. i went to the dmv and got my license (i got a dui and the state still hasnt given me my physical license back so i just went to the dmv and got a copy) and came back and he was busy with a customer so this other dude helps me and hes like "youve never driven stick? hold on.." and he and this lady tell me i cant, especially not at night, and i was like wtf..
