Taking a test drive

So perhaps this is a dumb question but: Is there a way to go about a test drive or is it pretty much walk in and ask?

Reason I'm asking is I've never gone about a test before. Only test rides were with my pop, back before the civic update, tested a few cars including the last generation civic hybrid.

As it was pointed out to me today I've never driven a civic or took a ride in one. None of my friends have one, and the two civics I've been in were both the hybrid, which as it was made clear to me IS NOT A CIVIC because it has nowhere near the ride of a normal civic. Well now I want to see just what the ride in a "normal civic " is really like and if its really even that different.

So do I have to call in advance? Bring anything with me? Pay a fee? I'm half tempted to ask to drive an Si but I doubt they would let me seeing as how I have to clue how to drive an MT. Any advice appreciated.

Walk in and tell a salesman you want to take a test drive.

All I did when I went last week was went up and told the guy I wanted to test drive a new SI. He took my license made a copy then came out with the keys. Took it out for a loop with him then he came back and gave me my ID and I left. No need to call before hand.

On a side note if your under 21 you have to have someone 21+ with you. No problem with me though because my dad was there. good luck

i've only driven two MT cars before my si test drive, an early 90s civic hatchback, and a buddy's protege in college, both for a total of less than 2hours. I think its fairly easy to drive MT (assuming you can get first)..but driving SMOOTHLY requires experience. The test loop i went around had me going from 2nd to 3rd most of the time, i.e. I was unintentionally testing that 2 to 3rd shift, which wasn't always perfect. I think it grinded a couple times, but I don't recall it popping out at all.

There's a few good instructional vids on youtube. The key really is a steady and smooth release of the clutch, which is of course most noticeable when engaging first. Just remember to do this upshifting as well otherwise it'll be quite jerky.

I Was 19 When I Bought My Si. They Let Me Test Drive The Car Even Though I Wasn't 21 Yet; I Was By Myself Too.
