Is my salesman trying to f**k me over

So beginning of Sept I make a deal on an SI. The salesman says end of the month it'll be in. Not last, but the saturday before I pick up the paper, notice his picture isn't in the dealer add anymore.

It's the end of Sept so I call. Whoever they transfer me to in end tells me it will be in in 2 weeks. Yesterday I get a message on the machine from the dealer, saying he's back, and the car should be in by the end of Oct.

I call back, he says he has to check with the manager, who isn't there, and he'll get me a date. He Said he'd call back by tomorrow (weds).

Is this common place among dealers? He can't tell me the manufacture date or delivery date. It's just X# of weeks.
No matter where I've been I've only dealt with one dealer for all my cars. Trying someone knew hasn't been going well so far. If I don't get some answers weds I plan on requesting my deposit back (or contesting the CC charge or filing a AOPC 308A-05, depending on how fiesty they are) and taking my business elsewhere.

Any input would be appreciated!

I'd never order a car. It's nothing but a hassle. Buy one off the lot. You'll get a better deal and the the car is right there to inspect and test drive. Of course you'll have to wait longer for the dealers to fill their lots with the 08's. Also try buying the car towards the end of the month. Salesman will usually be more willing to lower the price to make their month. Thats what I did. The guy took off 500 bucks off of the sticker without me asking. I hear people are paying 1000.00 over sticker at some dealers.

the salesman really doesnt know when they're going to get the car. Thats up to the factory. It's the factory that delays stuff most of the time. Unless this guy sold your car to somebody else that was willing to pay over sticker for the car it's the factory not him. maybe some jack off called out sick a couple of days on the line and your car got delayed.

The cars are rolling out of the factory just fine, it's the allotment to the dealers that slows it down... there are only so many to go around!

you guys do know there is a Search Button right??

When it comes to questions like these, you are in the wrong place to get an answer that is a REAL one.

Please, use the Search tool right up there...... under the google bar type "where is the car I want?" then click on the 8thcivic.com button and click search......

LOL he is NOT trying to F you. He wants the car in as soon as possible so he can sell it, and you can buy it. His manager probably thought they could trade for one from another dealership, they ended up not being able to get it or they got it from another store that has one coming in later in October.

Get over it. You can ask for your deposit back if you want....but your going to have to leave another deposit with another dealer to have them order you one....which is going to take an additional 3 months, so you can have the car in a few weeks...or a few months. Its up to you!

He tried to rip you off on an interest rate? Not possible. His finance manager might have held a point but if you have ever bought a home you got the same point held....and that costs you an awful lot more money than the interest on the car does.

If you got a high interest rate its because your credit blows. If you are maxed out on credit cards, pay bills late, not at all or have ever went to collections you have only yourself to blame for your high rate. Stop blaming everything on your salesman, who has NOTHING to do with the interest rate you paid.

If your dealer had a build date and a VIN then it's 2 weeks (depending on wehere you live) after the build date for it to reach your dealership. The VIN comes in a week or so before the car is built so it could be: car's in transit, car's not built yet, or your dealer is full of crap.

Get to the bottom of this and remember if you request your deposit and go somewhere else you'll be at the end of the line somewhere there instead of the beginning here. Do what I did, call every Honda dealership within 100 miles, I found an Si that was about to be built but the person that originally ordered it got a Si through a inventory trade at another dealership so it was up for grabs.

Good luck!

Typically the salesman only negotiates the final price nothing more (he doesn't know what you can or can't afford), it's the finance manager that looks up your credit score and works out the terms (good credit=lower interest rates bad credit=usery and raked over the coals with interest). Finance mgr. wants to make sure he won't get stiffed on your loan and be stuck with a constantly depreciating liability (your new car) and of course make money.

P.S. Finance manager is also the guy that tries to sell you things like paint sealants, extended warranties, and GAP insurance.

actually, the salesman doesn't really do anything at all except be the go-between for you and the sales manager. It's pretty rare that a salesperson has the authority to negotiate price on their own. Their job is to keep you in the dealership until you sign your name. Ordering cars is the sales manager or inventory manager's job. Same for knowing when a car is coming in. Price is all sales manager. Trade-ins is going to be the Used Car Manager or Sales manager. Interest rates, GAP, add-ons is the finance manager. Choosing a car & adding options (that aren't on the car/sticker) is the only job the salesperson has. Actually makes it a lot easier when you explain that to customers too. I made a lot more money getting buddy buddy with my clustomers & talking trash about the sales managers and then going to the managers and letting them know how much wiggle room I thought we had on the customer's offer. And no, I don't sell cars anymore. I'm just a random asshole now :)

Please just take cbond's advice. Goto his thread and he will give you a list of VIN's and ETA's. Trust me, he did it for me and I was able to tell when their inventory was going to be in better than them. I walked in and they said "I think it will be here by next Monday" and I said "are you sure you're looking at the right car? Pretty sure it's supposed to be here between this Thursday and Saturday"...... He was looking at the wrong car.

I gave up on the Honda dealership. The manager was the one that told me it would take 2 weeks (this was after I waited a month and finally called).

I signed the papers today on a 01 BMW M3 with 30k miles on it. Mint condition, somebody's spare car that was barely driven. My Acura dealer wouldn't deal on a TL Type S and happend to get the M in the day I was there. Quick little car I must say.

Shall post pics when I pick up the car. (And no I'm not the guy that posted the thread should I get a new civic of used M3, just happened to be in the same predicament).
