Question Honda Care Extended warranty prices

Can anyone comment on how one Honda dealer charges $1460 for Honda Care plan C78 and another dealer charges $460 for Honda Care plan C78? The dealership where I purchased my 2008 civic ex is $1000 higher for plan C78 ?Are there any differences in the plans? Are there any precautions to be aware of ?Do all Honda Care plans (C78) offer the same coverage from dealer to dealer?Has any one purchased there Honda Care from Saccucci Honda ?,they appear to offer the lowest price on the extended Honda Care.how can there be such a price difference in plans?

Pure profit for the dealer is the reason!

I canceled my B56 that I got ripped for $999 (dealer said, hey we gave you a great price from our NORMAL $1560) - yikes!

Needless to say I was royally PO'd when I found out that you can buy the same deal - online - from reputable dealers for only $460 or so (give or take).

The thing that really made me mad was the little "show" my seller put on to make me think I was getting a good deal - like let me see if I can get you a better deal (more like let me go find a better lubricating gel) - to come back.

More so was the show when I went to cancel it, like this online stuff is a scam, or this is the best "Honda" pricing can do - BS, it was more like don't take our pure profit away . .

So, what did I do?? Well I canceled, and the refund money automatically goes back to my loan as payment straight to principle! They'll tell you it takes 6 weeks to close, BS took about 3 for me.

Moral - Honda Care is Honda Care - all Honda Dealers are required to accept it as part of their franchise - buy it online, search the threads here, as there are four or five proven dealers on this forum that will not rob you . . . Don't buy it at closing! you'll get the stiff one up the tail lights, you have until you have 6k miles as well to buy.

OK - I'm stepping off of the soapbox now . . .

Extended warranties are great for peace of mind, but you've got to figure that there's a reason these companies stay in business. They are banking on the notion that you'll never have to use your extended warranty, and if you do, the amount in total needed for all repairs for the life of the warranty are less than what you spent to buy it.

So if you opt for an extended warranty, it's a good idea to shop online to ensure you'll get the lowest price. Getting it at the dealer may be the most convenient option, but most the time, it's not the most frugal.

I got mine from Saccucci Honda. I opted for the 8yr/120k for a lil over $800. It's a good idea to buy your extended warranty as early as possible, since rates will go up the longer you wait/more mileage you put on your car. You can always buy it before your factory warranty expires, but I'm not sure exactly how much your rates are affected.

Saccucci was the best option for me since they offered a 0% interest payment plan for 12 months. In retrospect, I'm not sure I should've bought my extended warranty since I'm planning on getting an 08 FA5, but it certainly helps with the resale value of the car.

I bought the 7yr/100,000 bumper to bumper from Honda. Hondas (like most cars) are notorious for AC compressor failure around 70-90,000 miles. That repair alone at the dealer (keep in mind other parts need to be replaced if a compressor dies) is 1400 bucks. And that is with a friend getting me that price. I think an extended warranty is a great idea if you intend to keep your car forever. Even a power window repair is going to run you 5 or 600 bucks.

Please keep in mind that I am not advocating to not get the Honda Care pkg.

More to not buy it from you dealer w/o looking at the online pricing. If your dealer is selling the Honda Care matches the current online prices - great get it there. But beware that you dealer may try to triple their profit as I was "scammed" IMHO into.
