On the search for my next car

well as some of you might know, I sold my si and will be getting a new car either in the winter or the spring time. I have always wanted an sti or evo, and I finally have enough money and a good paying job that I can afford to buy one. I can actually maybe even afford something a little nicer, that is where the m3 came in.

I went and test drove a used 05 sti at a shady dealership, and the front bumper was falling off and the shifting didn't feel that great either. My friend owned an 05 and it was a lot nicer. Then this weekend I went with my dad to the bmw dealership and he was checking out the new 335i coupe which he is looking to buy in the springtime, and I started to think about m3s. So we tested a 06 m3 with smg. This car was a little over my price range though, I would most likely be looking for a 03 or 04, 6 speed or smg.

The m3 was amazing in all aspects, handling, shifting, and speed. after test driving the car I cant see any other car being my next car. the only other car I would consider now is the bmw 135i when that comes out. what do you guys think of a used m3 or the new 135?

Ill def make sure to keep everyone that checks this out updated on which car I eventually get, since I do still use this forum everyday. should be around winter-spring as I said, if any sooner, pictures will be up asap. thanks again for checking this out.

my dad had an 01 M3... awesome car. just awesome. but i advise on the 135i. you get 4 years maintenence free, the performance will be very close if not better, the gas mileage is MUCH better, (my dad averaged 16 according to him)

the thing is the M3 engine is one of those "fun to wind the snot out" of engines like the Si. so if thats what you enjoy more than low end tq...

do you know the exact release date of the 135 yet? I keep hearing spring time, I really want to test one out. I see from your icon that you must like bmws already

any reason for the e60? someone own one that you know?

nope i just think its the ultimate Sedan Sports car.

its the best M5 ever, and there arent really any worthy competitors, they either arent as powerful (Audi), or dont handle as well (Mercedes), or both.

it seems as though just recently 2.5-3 years after its release companies are debuting cars that could possibly beat it.

not to mention the engine is incredibly impressive... low weight, 8300RPM 5.0L, 100HP/L, a virtually stepless Double VANOS (imagine i-VTEC type system with continously variable cam profiles, not jsut 2) etc etc.

its basically a baby F1 engine.

my uncle actually has an E60 530, but he bought it after i started using this screen name.

WTF are you doing at 19 to afford that? Damn haha.

Personally I would never buy a used performance car, especially a BMW. You may have a good paying job, but repairs in BMW's are insane, and you're asking for it buying a used M3. I'd wait for the new 135i

the smallest parts cost a fortune. get a new 135 when they come out, if you can wait that long

Save your money a while longer so you can buy new not used. Buying used, especially something like an STi etc., is an engraved invitation to Murphy. I wouldn't consider a used Si for that matter.

i wish on the 335i haha a little out of my range, my dad is getting one of them tho, the coupe so i will be able to drive that on the side. if I do get a used m3 it will be a certified one from bmw, so it will still be under warranty.

No not quite yet. I am keeping in touch, already in the system and pending a job for the winter as a tech asst. However I have yet to discuss tuition reimbursement and if they don't comply I plan to shift to Honda.

And the reason I gave the 35i's over the M3 is because a used sports car is never the way to go unless you know the owner personally and knew exactly what the car has been through.

the place I would be getting it from I know very well, my family has been buying cars from them for a while. So I would make sure the car was in top shape, and still under warranty, since they cannot make them certified unless they past a few tests.

Well i'll give you one very very very important key in buying a used car, although very simple no one ever does it... Ready?

If you have the slightest doubt of any kind that it is not a good car, don't get it.

Check the camber, check the oil, see look at the exhaust, intake filter, brake dust etc.

Humans do have a sixth sense but never use it.

sounds good, thanks a lot. this will be my second used car I have purchased, so hopefully I can use some of the experience from that buy. It turned out to be a great purchase that time, I'll keep you up to date though on what my final decision is. good luck with the job, where ever it might be.

I have had friends who have owned BMW's and they said they are just too costly to maintain out of warranty and even in warranty he said they have a crappy warranty policy...I still like them though.

Just thought I'd reiterate that BMWs cost too much to maintain. I'd take a used STi if--and only if--the purchase would be contingent upon it passing my mechanic's inspection. Honestly, that's the way to go with any used car. Trust me, I used to sell them.
