I had one of the first RSX Type S's ('02). I would have rather had a '05/'06 Type S instead due to where it's built.

I was half way through reading your giant paragraph, when I diverted my attention to a noise outside. A quick glance was shot at the front of the house, and I looked right back at my monitor.

In that split second, I lost my spot and had to re-read the whole thing over again.

Good write up. A good friend of mine used to own an RSX-S and he loved it. It was an awesome car.

I've upgraded from a 92 accord to a 07 si last spring. This august my friend / salesman had a rsx type-s on the lot and i asked him if i could take it for a spin. (the salesman owns a 99 type-r with all the jdm goodies you could want. Mugen wing, Mugen intake, the the super expensive Mugen racing bucket etc...)

After about driving it for and hour and visiting my favorite spots (i did kinda beat on it ) I came to the conclusion that there really no comparison between the two cars. The power plants are nearly identical and the gearing is the same if I remember the gearing charts. But overall from a raw performance perspective (road course not straight line) the si is easier the better car.

The seats have better bolstering and they are not as slippy as the leather type-s seats. Granted the si seats may not work for you if you are not skinny / athletic build.

The type-s really felt like a regular rsx with a larger engine, the suspension didn't seem anywhere tight enough and gave me a uneven feeling when pushing it through the corners. Even though it was nice to get back to standard power steering the car still felt "loose" when driving it around town.

I really was just disappointed and was kinda shocked, everything i've read over the last 5 years was that the type-s was an amazing car. But really its age shows when compared to the new si. Its not to say that the type-s wasn't an amazing car in '01, it was. Its just not close to the new si. Granted with all the things you can do to the type-s you should be able to make it the better car easily, but stock for stock there isn't a comparison, everything the type-s does the si does better (from raw performance on auto-x / road courses, I'm not a drag guy. N/A inline 4's are not suppose to go fast in a straight line. The type-s / si are "quick" cars.)

in my opinion, they are very similiar, Si replace Type S after 2006. btw, Type S cost $3000 more than Si. but Type S is luxury.

The 05-06 type-s were the better model when it comes to stock specs. I used to have a 2005 rsx type-s and my car drove a lot better then my friend 04 rsx type-s.

I think the type-s is lighter then the civic si right?

Anyways, one thing I know the type-s can do that the si can't do, stock for stock is going over 155mph.

Well thats how fast I been, but I only done it once, 2am with no cars around. I know still stupid.

I am glad you like your car. No regret and have fun with your car.

Hrrm... for some reason I think that the Si is lighter. Less electronics and luxury goodies (rear wiper, heated + leather seats). They're both light in comparison to the Germans, but I'd bet that the more luxurious DC5S should be heavier than the Si with all those creature comforts.

surprised no one mentioned that the rsx is a hatch while the si has a trunk.

I personally prefer the hatch.

Yeah, I prefer the exterior looks of the RSX-S and the hatch. But the interior of the Civic Si is more comfortable to me.

As for which is heavier, I think its the Civic Si due to the LSD.

si should be able to out-handle the rsx.....

the slolam numbers speak for themselves.

Rofl ^^^ the lsd does not add 80ish pounds. The si is heavier but its under 100lbs so it doesn't really equate to much of a difference. If you are that worried go take out your spare.
