Well, she is finally gone, my beloved Jetta.
She was my first car. Was bought new when my oldest sister took possession and went through another sister before being handed down to me. She was a good car. Not exactly a thrilling drive but a good car none the less. The car and I went through a lot together. From carrying TV's that were bigger than it was meant to carry to sliding rally style through gravel roads, and, many others... Even in her age she is still looking swell despite going through ownership by two automotively naive teenage girls and well, you know, a teenage boy... As it would turn out driving would become somewhat of an obsession of mine and while I loved driving my Jetta, I developed a desire for a car with more proper dynamics and that was more thrilling to drive. Basically a car that had a foundation conducive to really learning how to drive properly. Ever since I laid eyes on the Si concept my interest was very much spiked. After I learned more about it and it's RSX predecessor and the media finally started getting their hands on preproduction models, the more I read the more I liked what I was hearing. Despite how insanely excited I was when I got my Si, I was a little sad to know that I would no longer be driving the Jetta daily and that eventually she'd be leaving our fleet. Well, the time finally came. As of today my dad has officially sold the car. Fortunately he sold it to a coworker so I'll still be able to see her when I stop by the office. I am still sad to see her go and know that when I look out our driveway, she won't be there anymore. Though I asked my dad tonight if the car was officially gone and he said it was. However he told me the woman he sold it to apparently told everyone she was leaving work early that day so she could go out and drive her "new to her" car. I was glad to hear the Jetta's new owner is excited and will definitely get get more use out of her than she has been seeing the past few months. Yeah, I know it is a bit silly since cars are machines but there is something to be said about seeing a car you've owned for so long going away. I am glad that it is going to an appreciative owner who will get use out of her. Well so long USS Jettaprise. I wish you best of luck on your future endeavors.

I still miss my first car, a rusty old 85 Volvo 240 DL with a 4 speed and pushbutton 5th with a whopping 114 Hp that I bought in 00... I have bought and sold 13 cars since then, although I miss one of them more than that car (94 volvo 940 turbo wagon that I swapped a 5 speed into) I still wish I could drive that car again.

I know what you mean also. I had a 1984 VW Jetta with 49000 miles on it. It had a whopping 79hp. My grandma bought it new and it stayed in the family until I sold it to my neighbor after I bought my Civic. I didn't want to sell it, but I was in a different state of mind at the time. I was wanting start over fresh. Kind of like, "out with the old, in with the new." I do miss the car, because when you own something like that, you know nobody is driving around in the same car. Very unique!

Good read! Hopefully this coworker lady appreciates her "new to her" car. And like everyone else said, you never forget your first car. 1988 Grand Am. Oh yeah. That car fit me like a glove. Too bad it was a piece...
