They don't make Prelude's anymore so I would say go with the Si

Forget the last gen prelude

go with a 92-96 prelude You can pick one up relatively cheap and they look very good. I have a 93 Si still, I have it offered for sale (locally) but find myself having a hard time parting with it.

If you get one make sure it has an H22, otherwise later you will want to swap on the head on a H23 with an h22 head.

I will say the new Si has a lot of potential, In a couple years when my warranty is gone...

I can't believe how much progress Honda has made in the 10 years the Prelude came out. Its easier to drive, and you get so much more features/performance for your dollar (compared to MSRP of $26,xxx on a new SH in 1997).
You certainly do get more features for the dollar now, but Honda, like Toyota, has downscaled their materials. Interior plastics are lower quality, and without a doubt, the sheetmetal and paint are thinner.

if mods are ur plans, if ur going turbo or something big, then the h22 would be a good project, i cant stress this enough tho, u will not get the same bang for buck for basic bolt-ons with that car. it is very well engineered from the factory.
the prelude is a classic coupe, everything is high quality. i owned a 97 only a few months ago, and even tho it was 10 years old there was maybe one problem that all the preludes had. si=like a million.
si=better gas mileage, warrantee

the 4th gen prelude(92-96) is lighter then the 5th gen (97-01) and it comes with the h22 vtec engine too. if u can a prelude with the h22 in the 4th gen i say grab it. they go for cheap.

I went from a 5th gen Prelude to an Si. I still prefer the look of the Prelude, and the paint holds up better to rock chips. Aside from those points, the Si is an improvement in nearly every aspect. Tighter suspension, better engine, improved gas mileage, better gearing, nicer stereo, and more interior space. Insurance is nearly the same on the two cars.

I don't think either is a great choice to modify - if you're not happy with the stock power of either, I'd get something with a factory turbo.

Look for a 2001 Prelude or 1999-2001 those go for cheap and they have a H22 in them already i think so some simple bolt on mods it will beat SI's. i think before i bought the Civic i should of also considered a prelude. The prelude is better then the civic. If Honda was smart they would bring back the prelude make it AWD and RWD and a turbo H22.

I'd say otherwise. I think Honda did the right thing by not continuing the Prelude. Their sales weren't that great. The Prelude wouldn't fit anywhere in the present line up. We have the Si, Accord V6 MT and possibly even the TSX to cover for it. There's also rumours regarding the TSX coupe.

Truth. Not to mention, a RWD/4WD mid-range car (especially turbo'd) will not be near the same price bracket a FWD Honda would be...

I previously owned a 2000 Prelude SH. Really enjoyed that car, like most other people here who have owned both cars, the Lude pulled out of corners like its on a set of rails, its amazing. As well though the lude was really slow on the low end, but really enjoyed the vtec engagement on the lude more then the Si. The finish in the lude was of much better quality and I enjoyed the leather I had, but over all I enjoy my Si more, better overall as a car, 6 gears, better mileage, doesnt drink oil like my H22 did.

All in all, cant go wrong with either car. One wont have warranty, one will, my Si actually made my insurance go down a bit compared to my Lude.
