They probobly need proof that it's insured so they can register it for you. I know in NY when you go to the DMV, you have to have proof that your car is insured before they will let you register it. Your supposed to have proof of insurance on a snowmobile too, but they don't ask for it.

I could be totally wrong though. lol.

did you take delivery of the car yet? if not then Tommygun43 is corect. the only other reason the dealer would need the insurance card is to send a copy to honda financial if you financed it through them...not that you couldnt do it yourself but its a nice gesture that they will amke sure it gets done.

if you financed the car at your own bank and already took delivery ther eis no reason the dealer needs you insurance card.

Any financial institution that loans you money for a car wants proof at any given moment that the car is insured with a full-coverage policy. It's protecting their "investiment", and for most - if not all new cars that are financed, this is a requirement. Even when you sign the contract, there's a section where you agree to have the vehicle insured.

so then just make sure your current loan provder has your insurance card on record....the dealer does not need an insurance card unless they financed it

They cant Fund the Deal until they have your Insurance....which means that is not "Officially" your car until it is Funded...and they cant get paid until it is Funded....so they are just trying to get it squared away before months end or a LOT of headaches are to come....like redoing paperwork and retitleing the deal ......even as much as having to refinance the whole thing if you got a Special Rate or Something that may end before they get the Paperwork submitted!!

Don't worry I had to do the samething too. I had to show that I have insurance before I could bring it out.

They don't want you to get pulled over and when the cops ask you for insurance and you don't have any.

exactly. you purchase and own the car, but technically, your bank owns it, as they are the lien holder. therefore, if you were to wreck/total out your car, the insurance company pays the lien holder to satisfy the loan you took out, and you get what's left over.

this is how it usually works out.

i dont htink anyone in this thread read what he wrote...

he already picked up the car.
refiananced with a differnt bank...not honda financial.
now the dealer want his insurance....

there is no reason for the dealer to want his insurance now. the only reason they woudl want it is when he took delivery if it was financed through honda...but since he already has teh car and it is not financed through honda, the dealer has nothing to do with the car.

My dealer called ins co himself. They faxed him temp ID card plus something else, I forgot what, required for financing. That's the only thing my dealer did for me. Funny thing was that they kept faxing him papers with wrong info.

Yo. Contact Mr. Insurance Dude and see if he knows what's goin' on.
Contact your Mr. Finance Company Person and see if they know what's goin' on.

Don't depend on the dealer to give you answers to your questions.
