No, never been in an ES350, but I did spend a week with a brand new Avalon Touring a few months ago. Even that felt edgier than the Camry. Now, the Avalon, that's one Toyota I'd buy...

I drive corollas all the time. There's nothing great about them. Even the r18 civics feel much more lively and willing to have fun than the corollas (i drive an ex coupe). I, personally, like driving too much to want a car with a marshmallow suspension and a forgettable driving experience. The civic is much more fun than most econoboxes.

I think the matrix is better to drive, I almost brought one, clad I didn't, I finally came to my senses at the end of the test drive, it was nice, but OMG, for a base car, you get nothing, just the bare bones, with wind up windows.

Corolla have to have manuals, or stick shift, as you all say on this side of the pond. anyway, they are no fun otherwise. I like the styling its plain yer but nice and clean lines, it is the best I've seen, in a corolla, I don't like the dash however. the Euro ones look better.

Celica needs to be brought back. It was a much more exciting car than the tC, not to mention lighter and better engineered.

Toyota has a successful formula with the Corolla, and they shouldn't be messing too much with that formula any time soon.

Just because the Corolla does not appeal to you or me doesn't mean it doesn't compete well.

i think toyota's marketing is pretty good, they have their hands in a lot of things, such as the multiple branches such as toyota, scion, lexus. they can compare the 4 door (sedans) DX, LX, EX, and Si civics with the corollas and XRS, and they can compare the 2 door (coupes) civics DX, LX, EX, and Si with the tC's (comparison to power), toyota just has a broader range of selection, i think (just my opinion) that if it was a more 1 on 1 basis currently the current civic would just blow the corolla as competition out of the water.
