Well feature wise the fit sport is a better choice IMO over a DX civic. The DX has nearly nothing...not even a radio or power locks.

How do you figure? According that the charts that guy posted, a 5 speed Fit (Base or Sport) gets 31 combined MPG. A 5 speed Civic DX gets 29 combined. The Fit has a 10.8 gallon tank and the Civic has 13.2. So each car should go 334.8 miles and 382.8 miles respectively on a completely full tank of gas. The Civic goes some odd 50 miles farther at the cost of another 2.4 gallons, with today's prices that's another $10 for 50 more miles. To get the Fit to go that extra 50 miles you would only need to stop and add another 1.6 gallons. The size of the tank doesn't determine which car will cost more, MPG determines how much which car will cost more.

Of course everyone's mileage differs, my Fit is regularly averaging more than 31 doing City driving, not even combined. And some Civic owners are getting more than 29 obviously. However EPA numbers would be the best to do the math on since all their testing is much closer.

Hmm well maybe the fit gets better city mpg, but highway? i don't know due to it's smaller tank it has a more limited range though right?

Yeah from what I've gathered the Fit gets better City mpg compared to the R18 where as the R18 will see better mixed/highway mpg. Although like I said before I still don't think the deciding factor would be mpg if someone was comparing Fit vs DX or even Fit vs any Civic. MPG was the last thing on my mind when I was looking to get out of my DX.

Although the Fit sport has more features than a base DX anyways. I'd imagine the reason would be versatility? aswell? since the mpg's are kind of mixed? i want to know what the new one will get. I just don't get why the DX,LX and Fit have drum brakes though? not that it really matters right?

Well I traded my DX in for the Fit because of all the standard features (standard fogs and lip kit, even an Si can't claim that) the magic seats, rear hatch and it was more fun to drive. I don't think there are any numbers out for the USDM spec '09 Fit but mpg should be the same if not better due to i-vtec. Drum brakes? Who knows, only thing I can assume is that the cars are small enough to not need discs in the back, especially the Fit; so might as well save some money.

To get you buy a higher model and its probably a bit cheaper. Car manufactures will often keep features and certain colors or interior trim off lower models even if it costs little or nothing to add them.

The higher trim audio systems have chrome buttons where the lower models have dull grey for example.
