The first time 6k+ rpm
I've read through the breaking in the new car engine threads but I couldn't find any answer...
I travel a long distance to work (100+ miles each way) so obviously Si shouldn't have been the car i drove off from the dealer lot.. but I couldn't help myself picking Si over Accord after I test drove it. It is sweet yet very uncomfortable for a long ride every day.. But all the backaches and etc are I guess all worth it for now.. I was trying hard to "baby" the engine (below 4k rpm) on first couple of days, but it was very hard.. So i couldn't help myself reving it up above 6k once it hit 300 miles mark... the first time I heard that Si's VTECH noise, i just couldn't help it but kept for couple of seconds.. then as I was slowing down and lowered the rpm to around 4k (70~ mph) i smelled a funny burning smell.. my friend next to me joked that I probably burnt the engine. has anyone ever experience the burning smell at first 6k+ rpm reving? now i'm around 3k miles on the dashboard but haven't had any smell like that coming from the engine even with constant 6k+/day.. |

just gave me the peace of mind.. anyways, i've read many articles and forums regarding the addictive nature of the Si engine (especially when reving above 6000), but i didn't really know until i've done it/heard it myself in person... now i'm constantly looking for reasons and the right roads to drive just to hear the engine roar.. |

sounds like something i've been hearing from EVERYONE around me..
to get an intake.. even if it's the last mod i'd do for the car... i'm very hesitant on modifying anything on the car because of the history i've had with the results of car modification.. my previous 2 cars had some mods done to them (chips, BOV, catback, etc etc) where it caused the engine etc to fail eventually.. even though they were non honda cars (and the reason i've purchased thte honda car b/c they are supposed to be very reliable) i'm so sick of spending $$$ fixing cars.. Even though I love this car's power and noise I also need the car to last a long long time... would getting an intake cause any part of the car to shorten it's life cycle in any way? and any particular company you recommend? |

thanks for the reply guys...
i've been searching around the forum regarding the intake (injen etc) and it seems to be fine with many members here. i've had the CAI for my 1.8T engine before but never had a problem with hydrolock even in heavy rain... i'm getting too old for all this mods but.................. my blood's definitely boiling right about now.. |

Just curious to what other cars you had in the past that the motor died from putting an exhaust, bov etc. on? Turbo motors and a chip could cause death....messing with timing, fuel and all that.
To a NA civic you can do an intake, exhaust header very easily and not have anything to worry about as long as everything is installed correctly. But yes, stay out of big rains with a CAI. Slap an intake on the Si though. You don't get much power if any, but it really makes the motor sound good. |

my car was audi 1.8T (2001 and 2004)
to be more specific of problems i've had one of the pistons in the engine was bent out of shape and causing all sorts of rattle and noise... all the dealers i've visited told me it was the GIAC chip that was installed within the car that caused the ECU reading to be all funky that they couldn't even tell what was wrong with it... supposedly that voided the warranty and i had to pay $1000 just so they can open up the engine to look in to see what was up with it.. personally i thought it was the BOV (which wasn't recommended with 2001 1.8T) that caused the problems.. once a car has a problem, it seemed like everything else fell apart.. soon or later, my human mind started blaming everything that fell apart on the modification i did to the car.. right after the engine problems, oxygen sensor went, and had oil sludge build up.. soon the dashboard lights went out, windows didn't work, wheel bearings went, spark plug went, spark coils went, even the newly installed stereo system caused leakage within the car... most of these could not have been related to the mods i've done to the car (CAI, chip, BOV Catback etc etc) but i just felt better blaming them... heck, even the tire caught fire on the turnpike..!!! now you get the idea why i chose the good ol' honda? good to hear that intake etc etc won't do damage to the car.... even though i want to do all these things to the car all over again, and own a nice sounding nice looking car; i'm just afraid of spending any more extra needless $$$ on a car (spent $15,000+ just to fix those 2 audi) BUT my mind's pretty made up to do all the stuff all over again... as long as i get a peace of mind that these things won't do much to Si Last edited by powerbook76; 04-08-2007 at 10:51 PM. |
