2-week; 800 miles review 07 si sedan-LONG

I purchased the Sedan 2 weeks ago; got a fairly decent deal ($22,600) w/ tint and NAVI. Ive had the oppurtunity to drive up and down to Phx twice now (~120 mile road trips) and do about 350 miles of city driving.

Things I love about this Sedan:
1) its quiete docile and feels very Acura-esque if driven gently
2) first tank - 27.6mpg, 2nd tank - 28.8mpg, 3rd tank Im about to fill up on but have been really pushing the car hard for much of it
3) insurance rates compared to the MS3, WRX and EVO are MUCH better
4) the car hauls nutts around town just shifting at 4k due to these lovely gear ratios in 1-5
5) The seats are bolstered nicely, even for someone "not so large" like myself
6) dual-tier

Things that could be improved:
1) lumbar support on the seats!
2) e-brake handle repositioning
3) brakes

Everything that I was skeptic about in the beginning has really seemed to grow on me. The dash layout and those tiny little windows in front were the hardest things for me to get used to, now they are lovely. THe entire position and ergonomics the driver is presented with is just awesome. Its really driver-oriented which is very nice (being that I am the driver).

I have had my fiance and best friend drive me around in the car (front and back) to get a good feel for it also. The car sounds great, and if driven nicely (friend drove better than the old lady of course) is extremely comfy and quiet to be in. THe backseat has more leg room/feeling overall than the MS3 and WRX (sedan AND wagon) hands down. The flat rear floorboard makes a huge difference if putting 3 people in the back seat. The wheelbase grew but the overall length shrunk; the cabin is very efficiently designed IMO. The trunk space is very adequate and the fold down seats make up for ANY lack that some may feel it has. BTW the wrx does not have the fold down seats

The NAVI is one thing that will definitely take me a while to get down. Ive been playing with it since I got it and the majority and user friendliness is improving as time goes on. I got my color sheme down on the NAVI where almost every light in the car matches now, it looks great at night. As for road trips one thing that has bothered me a lot is the seats don't have any lumbar support. Granted if you sit up properly and adjust them as necessary its not a big deal at all. However, on my short 120 miles trips to and from Phx, my back was definitely starting to feel the neglects of proper lumbar support.

The drivetrain in this is fantastic. It really moves this beastly sedan along. Ive had a lot of Hondas back in the day and the driveability of this K20 w/ this short geared 6sp is better than my 92' si hatch w/modded B18C was. Typical honda fashion, there are the small faults/shortcomings of things. The vtec engagement definitely needs to be smoothed over- Hondata reflash. The dip is something that I used to take care of immediately cause I can't stand that. The tranny is smooth and I haven't even put some aluminum buschings or good tranny fluid in it yet! The rev hang, my sedan was built 02/07, is not an issue for me at all. I don't find it to be a big issue in the least, nor do I think that the newer cars really have it as bad as the previous year. The cabin is smooth and quiet and I have noticed any clunking, wind noise or anything as of yet. Maybe I will, but to me these are small issues that can be resolved with patience at the dealer or a little ingenuity. I expect (after 3 tanks) to get about 25-28mpg in the city and 30-34 on the highway.

The overall package that the new Si delivers just beats the competition. The MS3 is just as pleasing inside, but not nearly as docile, fuel efficient or cheap on insurance. Its a different type of ride I realize, but when you are considering a handful of cars to purchase as your first new one then you definitely compare apples to oranges over and over again. I really don't think for a nice daily driver than can be fun to drive spirited or even on occasional track days, that the Si sedan can be beat for what it offers. Im extremely happy with my purchase! GG FTW!!!!

I have some rattles on the interior that have progressively gotten more and more annoying, but I know whre they are, so the dealership shouldnt have too hard of a time fixing them.

I've put 700 miles on mine in 4 days. I improved the brakes by changing out the pads for Axxis Ultimates on Sat. AM.

Agree 100%. The lumbar support is a biggie for me too. I have close to 1500 miles in 2 1/2 weeks, and I didn't even go on any road trips lol. Great review though.

Ive read a few posts already about the e-brake handle position totally abstructing the leg room of some. I don't have that problem at all; my complaint about it is that when on a road trip or using the cruise control its natural for my right leg to sort of angle off to the side; which inevitably makes it rub the ebrake handle.

Really it doesnt cause me much trouble and I like the position as well. My main gripes are the lumbar and the brakes.
My plans for the near future: which I suspect will make this car that much more of a better daily driver:
1) possible short shifter/corsport shifter bushings
2) find some sort of lumbar support/cushion to use for long drives
3) SS brake lines, new fluid and new pads (possibly make some brake ducts)
4) weathertech front floor liners
5) Amsoil MTF in the tranny
6) plug n' play HID conversion
7) entire front end clear bra in the next month (hopefully before and chips)

I really think that about all of this can be had for ~$1,000 and it wil truly make up for ALL the shortcomings this car has. The only left after that will be to actually modify the car for a little bt better power/stance, but these 7 things will pretty much transform this into the perfect car for me !!!
