btw do you own that tC...my classmate loves her tC and she lets me drive it once awhile and to be honest it's a pretty nice car for the money. Doesn't rattle and it is more comfortable than the civic base mode coupe...faster too...
that's why i asked if you ever driven one or owned one.

yeah seriously, i sat in a few tc's and test drove them, i always leave the car impressed, especially for the $

there's a reason why consumer guide has been rating it as a "best buy" ever since it's been out

Go for the Civic. I owned an 06 TC and hated it. I had that compared to my wife's 2006 civic LX and the comparison on them in my mind was simple. The Tc's pedals suck, the instrument panel sucks horribly(really difficult to read because it was black over silver!), plus the illumination on the bezels at night is an ugly amber, and is not even consistant. The Tc has a lot of torque, but it feels wavy on the road, and the interior is not as nice in my mind as the civics. Plus the doors feel like they weigh a ton because how far forward the placement of the handles are. The price on the Tc is competitive, but I think the longterm commitment of the two is the civic. It got so bad on my Tc that I was avoiding driving it and always was driving my work car.

I have a civic si and my cousin has a tc. The TC is more of a cruise car. Nice low-end and mid range torque. The rear seats have alot of room. And they have a huge aftermarket support like the civics. But I still like my SI more.

I would go with the scion over a civic lx anyday. The scion comes with 17's and is good looking. Scion > Civic LX SI > Scion

my .02

How about 18k for a Coupe EX vs the Standard tC? (both auto, no nav)

just like what batang said ^^, i'd go with the rs 2.0, it has a limited color on the tc's, it's like the pearl white on the lexus i think, and has a Kenstyle lip kit. My 3 friends all drive tc, and i can say that they are pretty good car, sure, there are rattles and minor problems here and there just like any other car, the interior is also nice. I actually like the lighting on the gauges, light amber just like the infiniti although infiniti's look better, of course. I will get a tc over a civic lx or ex anyday.

You might not be into racing and such but my count against
TC's is 10-0 and counting... for some reason...
I never hit them up in my car.. they ALWAYS rev up on me
and high beam me on the freeways.
My favorite one was when I smoked a black TC
and it had a full on Eibach paint job (b/c it said eibach everywhere)
and the only time I saw him after we launched off the line
was when I saw him in my rear view...
TC's owners are girls by 60% (from what I've seen)
Si > Tc

Another thing or two I hated on the Tc. The heat and air conditioning buttons are a pain in the @$$ to find without taking your eyes off the road. I have always liked the round knobs on cars, because the buttons make you look down to actually see what settings you are on(dangerous). The civic has a round knob that you can easily feel and know where you are at on the settings. This isn't a major deal for most people, but I drive for a living, and notice these types of things.

The armrest sucks as well, if you are tall like me. My elbow was always on the very edge and it was awkward as heck! I would hate to take a road trip in that car, it was just so uncomfortable over long periods.

Tc has a 5 speed, not sure if the LX is the same or what, our LX is a manual.

Yes the Tc has better looking stock wheels, and has a sunroof standard, and has a nice loking interior, and some cool rear seats that recline, but these qualities fade away after a little time of ownership, because you just aren't that comfortable in it after a while.

Just test drive both and see what you like. I just love the tc's glass roof. I'd be lying if I said I didn't wake up wishing I had a white tc sometimes.

I also wanted a Scion tC but they are just too big and heavy for what I was looking for. I didn't want a big back seat, I got a coupe for many reasons and one was to avoid car pooling.

Looks are subjective and I actually thought it was a nice looking car . From a side view it looks very clean. I only thing I didn't like was the front, it just looked so chunky. If you put the tC next to the civic coupe you can see how huge the tC looks and how much of a fat ass it is. It actually resembles a bull dog.

The interior was a downer . I loved the seats since they felt good quality but other than that everything else looked cheap. The steering wheel was just ugly and cheap. The gauges were way small and hard to read. The center console was just weird with the pull out cover for the radio. Back then I wasn't 100% sure that I wanted MT so I was in an AT. Let me remind you its a 4 spd auto . Sun roof was nice too but when you open it, it stops mid way then you have to press the button again to open it fully. It was weird but other than that ok from what I could see. I didn't look at the trunk though.

I never got to drive the car so I don't know how it handled or etc. But being a Toyota how good of a driving experience could it of been? I'm sure it had a lot of body roll compared to the civic. I also think it has that typical floating on clouds feeling like any other Toyota's. But I did like the fact that it had 160hp which was what I was looking for. Thats the only civic's down fall, it only had a 1.8l 140hp with a comparable price against the tC. I do feel that Honda did a good job making 140hp from a 1.8l but just a little bit more would of been nice too but I gotta remember that the civic is known for fuel economy too.

After saying that though:

Scion tC > Civic LX
Civic EX > Scion tC

Yea, I like the Civic's Dash way better. Since Scion's pricing is no-haggle, I've been trying to negotiate a civic price down. Does anyone have recent dealer holdback/incentives handy? I've been able to get down to the genericly available invoice price fairly consistently, just seeing how to get a more accurate % profit to dealer estimate.
