Which is better to do, have the throttle wide open to maintain speed in a higher gear or shift down to a lower gear and only depress the throttle a little. If I'm in a lower gear the engine is spinning faster which I believe requires more fuel. So if I'm going up a slightly steep hill, and it requires me to press the gas all the way down to maintain speed, is this better or worse than shifting down and maintaining the speed at the cost of higher engine revolutions but less depression of the throttle? I hope you can understand what I'm trying to ask here. Thank you.
