Question Deal for 07 Civic EX Sedan Auto with trade in

Please voice your opinion on an offer from a dealer.

1. 07 Civic EX Sedan automatic price 18100 plus TTL
2 Offer for trade in 19300
3 Owe 21580 on trade
4 Trade is an 04 IS300 auto w/ 39700 on clock

I am in NJ and would like to get out of my current car for the civic that gets better mpg and is cheaper to maintain. I would attempt to sell the Lexus myself but it is rear wheel drive and likely wouldn't sell until the spring. The civic is going to be a commuter car at about 100 miles a day. Should I shop this deal around or sign the papers? I should be able to get a free trunk tray and mud flaps from dealer. What do you think? :)

what kind of commuting exactly? if you live in a big city and will do lots of city driving, forget about the 30mpg estimate. I live in LA and i drive in the city 95% of the time, i'm currently getting anywhere from 23-26mpg. However, if you're commuting mainly on the hwy then it'll get closer to the 40mpg hwy. When i drive on long hwy trips, i can get anywhere from 34-39mpg.

i drive an automatic ex sedan btw

It'll be all highway driving. It'll be good to be able to buy regular gas again.

19,300 sounds like an awfully fair trade value.. I wouldn't think (unless it has extra options) that that car would bring more than 17,500 to 18,500 at auction so I say that they are giving you above market value for it. A civic for that price! wow! With prices and trade numbers this dealership is throwing at you I would definatelly watch out for gimmicks. There has to be some kind of pro pack or back end product they are loading this deal with to make up the profit. What is your Doc fee up there?

The Doc fee is $188 and sales tax is 7%. I am going to visit another as has been suggested. Thanks.

I just got an internet quote for the same car for $17,222. They haven't seen my trade but if they do 20K I think I should make the deal. Opinions?

17,222 for an Ex Civic Auto?!?! That is insane. That is a thousand dollars under true invoice! What are those people smoking? Whatever it is, I don't want it. lol. Just make sure and watch out for doc fees over 100 dollars, back end products you don't want, pro-packs and other add-ons, and over priced accessories.
Sometimes dealerships will quote a price on a vehicle and then when you get there they are like "Oh, that one is gone but we have this one that is the same price you just have to buy this, this, and this" Big city's are famous for this and they know that 90 percent of the time you'll take it since you drove the extra mile.

Sounds like a good deal. You could do better, you could do worse. If you want to shop around, go ahead. But as HS2 says, watch out for extra add-ons during your financing.

That price sounds about right for the Civic, they are still going to make money after holdback. I think $20K is a super fair price on your car, but being upside down on a trade always sucks. You need to decide whether or not you are going to drive this car long enough to pay yourself right side up so when you sell it you aren't going to have to finance debt from your other car, that is never smart financially.

Jon

PS: And as everyone b4 said, watch out for add ons, if they try to push them on you just walk out.

I decided on a Black SI Sedan with navigation and picked it up last night. Thanks for your input.

You'll be missing that Lexus I guarantee that. After a little while you wont notice that little ass gas savings they claim. You will be dreaming about luxurious and fast Lexus. I still miss my 96 TL even though its been 6 months.

Not likely. There was nothing fast about that Lexus and it got horrible gas mileage.
