Rain Sensing Wipers?
Okay, I noticed something when I was out getting groceries last weekend in my Si (yes, I live a sheltered life).
I hate the windshield wipers because I don't feel that in heavy rain that they go fast enough, even on the best setting (even though I avoid driving in rain if I can). But I did notice that when I have it on a certain setting, when I was driving on the freeway, where more rain was accumulating, the wipers cleared the window faster, then when I got off the exit and slowed down, they stopped clearing it for awhile, then cleared it once enough rain accumulated. Then I left the red light, and more rain came on the car, and the wipers sped up. Am I seriously going insane, or are the wipers sensing the rain on the windshield?

Ah!! That makes perfect sense now. Thanks for the clarification. Still, cool no matter how you look at it.

Another thing to try out is Rain-X, especially if you are having issues at speed. With a rain-x'ed windshield in almost all cases you don't need wipers on the highway, even at slower speeds around 35mph+.
The rain just slides right over the top. Kinda neat. Remember to change your wipers every year as well. When I got my hand me down car it had wipers that were quite old, 5+ years. They were incredible at turning rain into gel. (so it seemed...) New wipers (not surprisingly) made all the difference. Of course with 8 gens this isn't really an issue yet, just figured I'd mention it for down the road. |

Yeah, I've used Rain-X before. I love it, but it's such a pain in the ass to buff completely off and get a streak-free shine.

I like to use the kind that comes in the bottle, not the spray.
It is best to take two old t-shirts (or one old one cut in half ect) and use one to do the two applications (put the product directly on the t-shirt), and use the other to wipe it out after it has fogged for a minute or two. I agree though, not the easiest stuff to apply properly but still worth it. Also using a glass cleaner before helps. Invisible glass is good, use newspaper with Invisible Glass. If you use car wash the 'wax' can get on the glass and make it harder to apply Rain-X. |

yeah my dealership offers me 2 free sets of "inserts" per year free of charge. Its not the whole wiper, but like you said, the "wiper insert" that they replace. Mine were amazing when i first bought the car a year ago, they still work pretty well with only a little streaking.....nothing a little cleaning cant fix or a quick stop at the stealers |
