Build dates? Delivery date? help!

So, a month and a half ago, or so, I was given a build date of 8/14 for my Si. The day has arrived and I call my dealer to ask if they've received a VIN number yet. "Not yet, we still only show a build date between the 14th and the 18th." What? Has anyone else had an "approximate" build date? I'm just trying to get a narrowed down window for a delivery date so I can sell my car. I don't think they'll do it, because I feel like I'm dealing with a respectable dealer, but I don't want to sell my car and subsequently have a massive delay on my Si and be stuck without a car for several weeks.

Right now, my current plan is to sell my car this weekend and rent a car for about a week. But again, I don't want to grab my ankles on this one.

Also, does anyone have an idea of how long it takes to build the car? I have no clue about this, I'm just curious. I've read on several threads that it takes 7-10 days after the build date to take delivery, I'm curious as to how many of these days are spent actually building the car.

I'm ready for this month to be over, so I can have my Si and all this stress will be behind me.

The worst that can happen is the build date is this Friday and it'll be in the dealership about a week and a half or two later (for me it took a little over a week from the build date to arrive in Yonkers NY, delivery time is dependent on where you are in the US). Unless you trust your dealership I'd wait a week until I get the VIN number and know for sure the car is in transit.

I do trust my dealership.... well, as much as one CAN trust a dealership, I suppose, which is why I'm inclined to sell my car this weekend and pick up a rental on Monday. Worst-case scenario (I hope) is that I have to rent a car for a week.

Another item of note is the fax that I received that shows a list of inventory that this dealership is receiving with my name next to my car. A few letters and numbers listed under "Model ID" appear to be a part of the VIN number. One of the characters in these numbers changes from a "6" to a "7" as the production dates change from August to September. Perhaps this "7" denotes the MY 2007? Commence with the speculation!

Ok heres my opinion. If the car is actually getting build today thru the 18, then you WILL have the VIN within a couple of days.Same exact situation happend to me. They promised the VIN before the build date but it was reverse. I actually went to the dealership and saw on the computers that it was being built and 2 days later they had the VIN. IMO, they should have your VIN soon. 5 days at most.

And how long after you were given your VIN did you take delivery on your car?

Well i got the VIN # the same day that the car was done building and in about 6 days the car was in. I was surprised because I thought it would take another 5 days since its getting shipped. BTW, dealerships like to be slick. Theyll tell you 10 days knowing it comes in 5 days just to make you happy. And then they tell you they rushed the car for you.

Or maybe sometimes they just don't like to over-promise when they can't be sure about dates. Better to under-promise and over-deliver, wouldn't you agree? I would think that most sales guys have been burned by that before and if they are smart are careful by giving conservative dates. Better than being yelled at by an angry customer when their car doesn't arrive when it 'should' have.

no, because WE DON'T know when exactally they will be in SOMETIMES they are in earlier. It gives us a better time frame instead of saying ya your car will be here in 2-3 days then it comes 6 days later which makes the customer mad.

Its like fedex saying 7-10 days on ground shipping you think they get it in two and say hey heres your package to make you happy on the 5th day just to be slick.

Hey bro,

I am in the same situation at the moment. I sold my car recently but I have a beater car to drive which is also up for sale.
I have people interested and I am also stuck because I was hoping to have picked up my silver EX last sat but the one that came in was a dealer trade so it had some mileage and a rock hip on the hood! I wasn't happy and try to lower the price but they wouldn't. They said they will just fix it and sell at MSRP. I thought that was shady and was kind of pissed but I needed a new car and this will be my first 'new' purchase. I decided to wait and they put my name on one for production date 8/15 and the dealer guy told me it will be in roughly 9/6-9/10.

I am still trying to see if they would lower that one and fix the hood for me but at the same time, I rather wait and get a brand, brand new one. I don't have vin # either but I think my bank needs it or at least po since I will be getting some loan money as well.

So if my beater gets sold before then. I will be without a car for a few weeks. My mother is willing to let me barrow her crv for the time being but still... you know. New car, start school, need a car... uhm... yea.

So yea... it be nice if they just call me up and say its in before the septemeber but I will just have to wait... good luck.

As a Honda salesman, do you find it particularly since they "almost sell themselves" (old Honda ad slogan)? Ford/GM/Hyundai salespeople must have a more challenging job convincing people to buy their cars.

Do me a favor and relax idiot. I said that as what i'd think from MY experience. I just said that maybe they might know the date and tell you it comes in 10 days when they know it comes in 5. This way it would make the customer feel happy that the dealer actually tried to rush the order. And then the dealer might say, I tried to rush the order for you Mr. Thomas since you have been waiting so long already for the car.

And about the fedex, if they actually did do that, wouldnt you think customers would be happy saying, wow theyre good, they got it to me 5 days early.

Thanks Dumba**. Have a good day.

oh ya, its pretty easy selling most hondas. The hardest sales are to people who give you outragous offers, and ex-gm or other domestic buyers that expect to get huge discounts, rebates and zero percent intrest. Then we try and convince them thats that shit is all bad for your car then they think your lying to them.

Hyundai salesmen just pitch the warrenty they have and avoid the the resale value. While ford and gm salesmen just pitch there rebates.

if you guys have any dealer questions feel free to pm me.

Where does it say MY experience? You must of had a bad dealership experience buddy to judge all dealerships.

I'm done replying to your ignorance.

My fault if Iit seemed like I judged all dealerships. Mine in particular gave me a hard time throughout the whole time.
