I've seen the PDI checklist sheet. It clearly states a 15km or less driving requirement. Whether they follow it or not is a different story.

The owner of the Acura dealer showed me the checklist after I demanded to see it, when I noticed my TSX had alignment problems and a cracked headlight. He actually gave me a copy, I'll see if I can find it and post it here.

They actually ended up reimbursing me for the PDI charge for my TSX (2004) admitting they did not follow the checklist properly. They calculated it to be $170 out of the $950 Frieght&PDI charge, which is what I got back. Plus they did a full wheel alignment and fixed my cracked headlight.

You're an idiot if you think you can get an Si that hasn't been flogged before you got it. From the time these things are unloaded from the ship to the time you drive them off the lot, they have to be driven. The ppl who unload them off ships into lots waiting to be loaded to delivery trucks drive them like maniacs...all cars.

I understand about not wanting a demo car and such, but every 10th of a mile on that car before you got it is probably done with rough driving.

I hardly think it has any damaging effects though.

The other thing my dealer friend told me they do at the dealership, they always put 87 grade gas in SI's.

+1

The only damage I would be concerned about is screwing up the tranny by not knowing how it's done. My car had 13 miles on it when I picked it up and there are no problems whatsoever.

I agree with MOST of the opinions on car salesman on here. Some, if not most, are out to get the most profit they can, regardless of what it takes. The only way to change this way, is to take away the commission, but that will never happen. My father sold cars for a week, then quit. He was too honest of a guy and felt too guilty selling people cars they couldn't afford(that the dealer pushed). They remind me of crows or buzzards, waiting for something to walk onto their lot so they can go dive on it. They sit outside all day at the front door just waiting for that unsuspecting uneducated impulse buyer

I thought that my dealer was great to deal with, they went out of their way to pull us a car from out of state. Looked great at pickup, even had a nice red bow on the front of the roof. I didn't notice that the bow was really there(on the front of the roof, not centered up like would look normal) to cover up a nice long 9-11 inch scratch in the clear. You can even see where they "attempted" to buff or polish it out, but just made it swirly instead. Oh well, what can you do, I can get it out better than they could(Obviously).

I can't even begin to give you the stories and the actual events that take place at the Acura Dealership where I live. If I did, you'd have 7 pages of just my post! Needless to say, Acura ranks the lowest among all luxury brands in dealer experience on Consumer Reports Polls, let alone they are barely mid-pack compared to non-luxury brands.

this debate keeps coming up... salesmen vs customers... it will never end because one side cant convince the other... it just sparks lots of bad feelings between people... we should just get this thread locked...

I actually think we should encourage people to share their experiences, as opposed to "locking" them out. The purpose is not convincing one side or another, the purpose is to make people more informed. The more informed consumers are the less chance of them getting screwed in a deal.

One of the main purposes of forums like this is exactly that; people exchanging information and sharing their experiences with each other.

Information is a powerful weapon, it's really the only weapon we have against a very powerful dealership system the success of which is based entirely on the assumption that customers are uninformed.
