This is a great weekend to flush the tranny since the wife and kids are going out of town. A great time to do alot of things actually.
Anyway, the MT LX has exactly 4062 miles on her, with plenty of 4k - 6k sweeps on the tach. 75% highway, 25% city, and my last tank was my best yet at 36mpg's. Is it too early to flush the tranny or is now the right time? I have access to the oil, a buddy's got like 9 leftover quarts of Redline MT-90 I can have. From what I've read, I think I'd rather use the MTL than the MT-90. Any ideas? So obviously the R18 and the Si motor don't have a dipstick to check the fluid level, we use the filler bolt to check. Where the heck is the drain bolt? I haven't been under there for that purpose yet, it may be staring me in the face. Simple drain and fill right, 1.7 quarts? |

make sure honda approves MT-90 fluid.
some require SPECIFIC fluid some require general fluid. my Jeep needed "jeep specific" manual tranny fluid and or a GM synchromesh or it destroys synchros so do your studying before you do anything BUT it is never early to change fluids. Keeping it fresh will only be beneficial ![]() and as far as the drain plug goes, it should be in the manual. I don't have a manual but i'm willing to bet it's on the driver side. two bolts. fill and drain. DO NOT OVER FILL

Manual transmission fluid change
Guys, I haven't had a M/T since my RX7 blew an apex seal a couple of years ago. I never changed the fluid but the shifts were perfect. I know you have to stay on top of an Auto transmission maintenence because the fluid can get dark/burnt and the filter can clog with metal shavings & pieces of internal bands & etc.
What's the process involved in changing the M/T fluid? What type of fluid does Honda recommend?

changing the MT fluid would be difficult unless you had a lift. The car must be level to check the tranny oil through the fill plug. Unless you plan to jack the car up onto 4 jack stands, refilling the tranny would be difficult with only one side of the car raised.
