Easy Subwoofer Uprade For Ex/si
Im no expert on stereos, so attempt at your own risk. I will let you know if my system explodes.
I got to thinking about my stock system on my Civic Ex. It comes with a stock subwoofer and amp. I hate installing after market head units (they always get stolen) and I alway try for a stock look. So what I did was simply disconnect my stock subwoofer speaker wires in the trunk and then placed a couple of speaker wires inside the adapter and ran the speaker wire to a sony 12 inch subwoofer and BAM INSTANT BASS UPGRADE. I was simply shocked at how good the stock premium system will power a 12 inch sub. It is amazing!!!!!! I bought my sub for under 100 clams. Its a 4 ohm sub that is rated at 380rms. ![]() Photo of the hook up in the trunk ![]() Photo of the sub with seat down. ![]() One member said he attempted this with a 10inch competition 500watt rms speaker and it didn't work. not sure if he was using a sealed or ported box. I hear ported boxes take less power to get good sound. So here is are a couple photos of the box I am using ![]() ![]() Last edited by brennon77; 04-05-2008 at 09:08 AM. the thing is is that the lx has the 10 watt without the sub
and the ex has the 300 watt with the sub and the ex head unit has the channel for the sub so this wont work with the ex but you could do the whole LOC of the left and right rear deck speakers but this particular thing wont apply to the lx or dx |

You wanted to see my 12incher HUH. Well I added the photos above. It really looks clean. I dropped off something to my friends house and his wife came out and she heard my stereo and said wow your stock system sounds better than my husbands who just spent $1,000.00 on it. I laughed and said it is not stock. I popped the trunk and showed by buddy's wife my 12 incher. LOL..

Whats the output of the stock unit? (amp?) I have a 10 inch true competition xplod. 1000 watts max, 500 RMS.
I know it wont bump it, but will it even push it? EDIT: Nevermind. I think it'll work. Last edited by SoCal07Si; 04-03-2008 at 01:20 PM. |

I haven't a clue. I never really got around to figuring that out. Most subs opperate at 2 or 4 ohms. The sony is 4. Not sure about the stock. However, If anyone knows please inform me. Would be good to know.
