no...... the only issue you might run into it underpowering the sub, wich can be just as bad as overpowering it. Overpowering the sub will cause too much power to go to the sub, making it burn up its coils, under-powering the sub can cause clipping in the amp (b/c the amp is not powerfull enough to power the sub right so you have to run it a little louder to get the same amount of bass out of it), a clipping amp can send distorted signals to the sub causing the sub to also blow. The best thing to do is to get a sub that it rated close to what the amp can put out at the right ohms. The local car audio shop told me that the civics amps/subs use a non-standard ohm setting to get the stock sub to sound better at lower power.

Did you have the sub level turned all the way up and did you make sure the wires were connecting? What type of sub? Did you make sure you had the wires from the speaker connection to the sub wired properly? What type of music did you test it with CD Radio MP3? bass level? If you tried all that, and it still didn't work then the amp may not have enough power to to push the 500rms that your comp ten is rated at. The sony that im using is rated at 380rms.

Sub was all the way up, bass too. Wires were connected, i reversed them to make sure, still too weak. Its a RF dvc competition 10". 500 w RMS. Tested it with the radio, then a CD.

Remember bass is NOT directional, BUT with that being said, you can put you sub in one spot and it sound ok, then move it back a few inches and it sound 30x louder. Take this from someone who installs/designs BIG dance club sound systems. if the your trunk is going to rattle, it will do it no matter what way you face it, but you better watch how close you put it to the back of the seat b/c the speaker might be hitting the back of the seat when its working, wich then yes, its not going to rattle the trunk b/c the seat if causing it to not make as much sound.
