Extra Dim/Extra Bright Speedo

So I noticed not too long ago that my Speedometer was not as bright as it used to be. After a little playing, I figured out why....
  • press the ">" button until your speedo is at its brightest setting... Make a mental note of how bright it is.
  • Turn off your car engine
  • turn the key to ACC
  • Press the "<" button to reduce lighting on your speedometer and radio until it is at its lowest
  • Turn on the car again....
  • Press the "<" button again until it is at its lowest (if not there already)
  • Now Press the ">" button until it is at its brightest setting

Compare the highest brightness now against what it was in the first step. It is not as bright.... TO fix this, repeat steps only at the 4th step, press the ">" button instead of the "<" button until it is at its brightest....

Let me know if I'm tripping out or what, but I experienced this and repeated it a second time to make sure it was actually happening.... Whether you think this is a bug or a feature or what... I called it first... :)

I believe there are 2 settings...

One for headlights off and one for headlights on.

I have adjusted mine so that the speedo dims when I turn on my headlights. This reduces the glare at night.

you're right there are two settings. when the headlights are off the speedo is at the brightest setting. when you turn your headlights on it goes to whatever you set it to.

I'm not sure about other models, but in my DX, when I am adjusting the brightness, on the Tachometer, 6 or 7 little boxes go across the display. As you dim the brightness, boxes disappear, the lowest setting I think only has one. And the brightest has all of them. It's an easy way to tell what setting you're at.

I believe that I was able to set both of these, not just one.

I can check this again tonight after work.

RIght, but you can set both to your desire... You can have both at extra bright or extra dim. I have mine set at extra bright for both nightime and daytime..

Yea, and theres no need to turn the car, and off back again, cause it will stay Bright, or Dim depending on how you adjust it. I tend to scare people sometimes, I get next to them with the dim inside lights on, and then as soon as they look over, I start to increase the Lighting on the rpms/speedometer, and Bam! Bright as hell, and then I drive off. Its all about the Fun.

whoa.. I bet that lights up the interior pretty well. I use one lower than the highest setting at night, as I find the full intensity is a bit distracting from the road.

on a side note....you can set it to whatever you want for the night setting and then if you turn on your headlights during the day and hold the + to make it completely bright (all boxes...same as daytime setting...or whatever other brightness you want), you can get back to where you were (for the original night setting) with just one push of the - button. If you let it go on the way up (with the +) and do it one box at a time, you'll lose the memory setting.
