Update!
I finally got around to doing my ambient lighting. With good news I got them to fade out with the dome lights! And I did LEDs in the cup holders and change holders. It was a major relief to see it work, it was a lot of wiring, it's a pretty intensive work if it is your first time but it's worth it in the end! At first it's confusing to get what everyone is talking about but after I kinda fished around I got it figured so if anyone needs help just hit me up! I must thank everyone that helped me out with this project! |

Thanks, I'll try to get them up as soon as I can get a hold of my roommate's camera!
Well I just wanted to go more into detail (because I felt guilty if anyone was burning to get a start) I will go through a little tour about the dome lights for the Sis (mine is an 07). When you see that dome light thread with confusing picture of the fuse box with all the T-taps (these taps will make your life easier, get smallest ones, they make tapping into your wires more orgranized, I had to hardwire mines cause radioshack sold them too big). That thread however, has very useful information covered, just search for it if you can't find it let me know. I was just confuse by it because I was a noob. Well what that person did is if you look at your fuse box under your steering wheel, at the very bottom of the box there is a yellow harness(where wires are going into it dont worry what they are for this project, just don't mess them up). RIGHT next to it is a blue harness with a bundle of wires black taped together going into the harness(blue, remember). Those are where the dome wires are. It is very tightly wrapped and what you do is that your remove the panel that surrounds the hood release by first pulling aside the weather strip (the strip goes around your door so don't remove it completely, just remove in that area) this panel is held down by the weather strip you'll see it when you push the strip aside. And it is also held by the door jam so just left that out of the clip and there is one clip which the fuse box map sticker on the same panel covers over, just pull hard in that area after you de-clip everything(this makes much more sense if you look up the civic tear down guide). This way you'll expose the harness and have more room to work with, now what I did is that I disconnected the blue harness (so the wires come with it) to make it easier for my access to the wires that you want when you disconnect that blue harness. Now take that bundle of wires and look for ( I have an Si so I don't know what other models use, ask around), but for the Si the positive is the LIGHT BLUE (as covered in this thread) and the PINKish one (NOT red) is the negative. And there you go, if you need assistant there are many people here that knows what they're doing so you can ask them or ask me! Sorry for all the parentheses! I know it's bad grammar to do so but eh... |

I was typing you a response to your first post, but it got deleted because of my damn internet connection. LOL! But oh well, you got a new one. Um, I guess those would work since they said they'll provide most of things you need. Although I plan to switch the cathodes(bar lights) to LEDs one day, but I got my cathodes from Oznium.com for cheap and it was a very fast shipping too I was impressed. I got them in pairs including the transformer for like $6.79 USD. I got my LEDs from BestHongKong.com for like 50cents each althought I had to buy resistors and my roommate had to calculate the resistors ohms for the LEDs himself (Applied Mathematics Major, crazy bastards LOL! Kidding). But the link you have should work I guess. Remember if you're gonna do the cup holders with LEDs to get the correct LED holders. And remember the T-taps! Or you can hardwire but that's more complicated, it's all specified in the Ambient light DIY i will provide for you.
As for the question about the Mechanic, I guess you COULD. But really I'm not a handy person either, all I did was went step by step with the DIYs on this site. I must add however that this is not a 1 person job and at some points are frustrating. It took me all day to do these lights because it was my first time removing my interior and messing with the fuse box. I'll provide you the links to the DIYs i used to see if it sways you differently, but if not it's cool to get a professional on it, better safe than sorry right? But yea, here you go: This one gives you a drawing of how to take apart your center cup holders and how many clips and where the clips are, its very useful although the pics isn't working well right now on 8thcivic, there is a pdf file that you could Download at the bottom of the post: 2006+ Honda Civic Interior Tear Down Guide This one shows you how to put the LEDs on both the footwells and the cup holders (go by this if you're gonna order the ones you have on Ebay): DIY: Ambient lighting, cup holder, under the dash, and the change pocket. This one shows you how to put the Cold Cathodes on the footwell instead of the LEDs I did this b/c it's easier to me: DIY-Interior illumination This one gives you a picture of the fuse box that had the dome light wires I was telling you about in the my post: DIY: Courtesy Lights to Dome Light w/PICS Hope I helpd ya out! Ask me if I didn't answer any part of your question. Last edited by Ltlai; 01-20-2008 at 10:57 PM. |
