Courtesy light wiring

Sorry for the late post. I just got my new car last week and am getting ready to wire in the LED's. This pink and light blue pair...are these for powering the existing ambiance LED that dims with the console lighting? How do you tap into it? T-tap or insert wire into the plug?

J-Ro.... When you start the car, dome lights (subsequently these courtesy lights) will turn off immediately. If you have the car off and you open then shut the door the lights will fade out after 30 seconds.

They do not turn on when I have a map light on becuase I hooked these lights up before the Map Light switch. They have their own switch located under the drivers dash.

A thing to consider is this: In the ceiling of the EX model are two dome lights. One in front next to the sunroof controls, and one in back above the rear seats. Both sets of lights have an on/off switch that is influenced by the door opening/closing. Each light also has it's own control to turn them on/off while driving (in the front, not sure about the back lights).

Is it possilble to connect the dome ligths and courtesy lights together so that if a door opens both come on? And only one switch controls both? Yes and yes.

In my installation I've turned off the dome lights and just have the courtesy lights coming on. It feels kinda spacey. I like it. :)

I recently ordered blue LEDs to replace the actual courtesy light bulbs.

http://www.cardomain.com/item/VARAL211LPBL

No re-wiring, they fade out when you start the car and turn on when you've got the map light on.

I'll let you know how they look when I get them.. hopefully soon.

(for sedans, don't forget about the rear seat bulb)

I'm confused... when you say "actual courtesy light bulbs," do you mean the map lights? Or are you talking about the optional Honda kit?

I just realized you were talking about the courtesy lights. Those leds on the link you gave are for dome lights, and if thats what you want to replace then you got the wrong size. should be 3022 i believe.

Thanks, but I confirmed the dome light from the OSRAM bulb guide - attached thumbnail.

It specifies courtesy as 3175. In any case, I can always make a connection between dome light leads and courtesy light bulb/LED.

When you open the door, the map lights (front) and rear lights come on. I believe those are the only lights that come on as courtesy lights.

We are talking about adding lights under the foot wells/center console. Those are the courtesy lights. It sounds like you are just talking about the map lights and rear dome light.

Okay good, we are on the same page...
There are no courtesy lights... hence the LEDs :) My parents have the 06 Accord and it's got courtesy lights in the doors, but they don't do much...they freak out whenever I casually mention modifying something on their car

Just got back from out of town so late reply, but I received them and you are correct. They are the wrong size.. I referenced an incorrect web page.

However, with some small modification I installed them and blue looks great!

There's always a way around it if you want to do it yourself :)
The reason they say that is that the spare plug-in that would be used for the Honda courtesy light kit (which I don't really like, but that's besides the point...) is being used by your foglights. That's the case for me too. Have a look at peliROJO's earlier post. He's got a good DIY on it that I'll get around to one of these days.

DIY: Courtesy Lights to Dome Light w/PICS

I'm new at interior lights too so someone has to tell me if I am interpreting this DIY correctly. I believe he is connecting to the dome lights by tapping into the the pink and blue wires in the blue harness under the fuse box next to the yellow connector. Am I right?

That's correct. The reason I didn't do that is because for some reason the pink and blue wires didn't work for me.

Thanks J-Ro, I'll give it a shot to see if it works. If not, there is always the bright side; wires are not that hard to repair. Thanks for the confirmation.
