Info on changing Power Steering Fluid...

I was looking through the DIY forum and did not see any info on how to change or flush the power steering fluid. I have read elsewhere this is good to do every 1 or 2 years and will help keep the power steering system in tip top shape.

Does anyone have a DIY or any info on how to change or flush the power steering in the 8th gen Civics?? I know the Si has electronic PS but the rest of us have hydrolic so need to change it every now and then.

I know we are supposed to use only Honda Power Steering fluid - so I am not asking what to use - just how to do it.

Thanks in advance

Guess I will have to use the famous "turkey baster" method and post pics for everyone. Check back next week for them.......

Unless someone else wants to post a better method!!!

I looked it up the service manual and here's the basics. (However I'm sure power steering is something you don't need to worry about for a long time):

Use honda fluid. Total to replace should be 0.27 quarts.

Pull out the reservoir. (it slides out)

Pull out the upper hose attached to the reservoir (the return hose)

Drain the reservoir.

then attach another hose to the return hose so you can drain it into a container.

Start the car, let it run, turn the steering wheel lock to lock a few times.

Wait till all the fluid comes out and shut off engine.

Fill up the reservoir.

Start car, let it run, do same thing with steering wheel. (bleeds air out)

Add fluid as needed.

Nice - thanks for looking that up.

Looks like 1 qt will do 3-4 changes. Change it once each year and your power steering should last forever.
