Pretty much my setup but I didn't remove the bellows in intake....
You used a turbonator? why ....All you did was put a big restiction in the airflow...
here is the link to my setup......

You have answered your own question, air restriction makes ecm reduce fuel required to combust. Hence less fuel used and you get more mpg.

yes but you loose performance as well....
why would you spend all that time making the Intake less restictive and then add a restiction you just canceled out everything you did.....you made a performance mod just to counter act it?
There is tests that were performed on the Turbonator and the results are not good alot of the cars tested had worse performance then before it was put in....I'm not trying to mock you setup just trying to help....remove it and I promiss you will see better results

It gets removed during strip runs, but when I drive to work on the highway it's in to save on gas.

Removed the resonator and finished all of the bottom box and half finished the top. The ivtec kick is def smoothed over some. Next is a K&N at some point.

DIY vs T1R

...just wondering about the whole hydrolocking thing...it looks like the T1R intake has its inle in the same location as the homemade icebox (just forward-facing), so is hydrolocking going to be an issue or is the whole hydrolock thing blown out of proportion? Any help is appreciated...thanks

the scoop/tube would have to be completely submerged for it to be an issue.

I am doing this mod now. I've had the K&N drop in for a while now and since it was Memorial weekend I had some time free to try this. I only had time to do the bottom portion though, as I have to go to my cousin's graduation party. I didn't have any silicone left over, but I did have a big metal hose clamp to use. I tried shaking and pulling it out to test the strength, and it holds great. I made sure the plastic didn't pinch or bend from the tightness of the clamp. Thanks for this. I am thinking about modifying the bottom portion like somebody else did so that it looks like the T1R version inlet, but since I have a 4dr Si, I don't have that extra air comming in from the fog spaces like the 2drs or JDM/CDM ones do. I plan on doing the top/air box tomorrow. Thanks for this DIY.

Next phase: Top/Airbox mod as stated by OP then CRV tube

Did this today as well. Now I need to hollow out the airbox itself....

I got tired of the K&N SRI I had and I also got tired of the whole intake game...

Wish there was some sort of dyno sheets for this. I don't have the funds but I have a RH so there would be no baseline.

Update: I smoothened out the top of the airbox. Man that was a pain in the @$$ as far as time goes. I had a dremel but not the long thin pencil like attachment which would have helped. Getting it smooth to where there were no more pieces of plastic sticking out was a long time to do. I am leaving the the 2 plastic vaines for the MAF alone though.

i did this mod yesterday!
it was pretty easy and straight forward
i took off the bumber, driver side tire and the inner wheel well
i probably didn't need to take all that off..but hey it was good practice for my future mods
