Gas milage wise, I've been getting 27.4 mpg combined with the new kit. I can't complain with the governments rating of 23 city. So far I've run 3 full tanks through with it, about the same whether I am driving spirited or conservatively in 6th most of the time. I am sure over time the Si's computer will adjust.

My only complaint so far with this new kit after a month is how my Si's throttle gets cranky when its below freezing outside. I think the stock intake optimized the air for cold mornings.

All-in-all, I'm still happy with it. One of the best quality ones on the market.

Did you guys ever end up doing the washer idea or not? Did the rattles just go away? I just ordered my Typhoon tonight!!! I want to know whether or not I need to pick up these washers prior to attempting my install, if that really helps kill any potential rattles. By the way, great DIY write up dowNNshift!

Okay thanks, because the very back of the filter(the rubber part) touches what looks like a brake line?

Yes, it does touch it, I did your piece of paper clearance test on wednesday when I installed. Brake line is the only thing that makes contact, I used both brackets and no rattles but it touches.

This is confirmation for me to purchase my own K&N Typhoon SRI. I've been looking around and it looks like K&N makes the best product!

This diagram really got me thinking. Here comes my off the wall creative/stupid idea of the night... Couldn't we take advantage of the way that stock plumbing to the resonator/cold air intake stays in tact so that the filter can attempt to draw cold air from it and actually force cold air from the resonator area towards the air filter? I was thinking that you could just install a 80 or 120mm computer fan inside the tubing to blow cold air in the direction of the K&N filter. It's obviously in a position where wiring it to the battery wouldn't be a problem, the only problem would be finding a way for it to turn off the fan when your car shuts off. You wouldn't think water would be a concern since the fan would be housed inside of the plastic piping. You'd have to think that a 120mm fan would really push some cold air towards your filter! Or am I just retarded? Here's what I'm talking about.

I would not recommend doing that.

To much bandwidth on my server has been used. So it was fun, but I'm bowing out.

If you e-mail me the pictures I can post them on my website. I haven't had any bandwidth issues yet. I thought they were great pics and helped quite a bit with my install. By the way the intake sounds great. I thought it would be 20-30% louder but it's at least 100% louder than the stock intake. I did have a question for some of the other K&N owners. If I ease into the throttle it sounds pretty much stock, if I stomp on the throttle it roars, but if I give it a normal amount of gas it has kind of a weird tin like metallic kind of sound that could either be the sound of the intake starting to suck or something rattling. I already loosened all of the mounting brackets and attempted to pull it towards the front of the car, and tightened it back down but it sounds the same. It does NOT make the sound when I'm parked, only when I'm moving. It seems to be most noticeable between about 2800-4000RPMs. Above that it starts roaring and drowning it out, below that it isn't noticeable. I think this might just be the sound of the intake but the others having problems rubbing on the brake line got me worrying that I might be running into that. It's pretty much impossible for me to confirm whether it's rubbing on the brake lines or not. I also took videos of VTAKking with and without the intake for others to compare, but haven't had a chance to post them yet. By the way, how do you embed a video?

Great info for the K&N. I wonder how often would you clean your K&N? Unlike the stock, this is exposed to all kinds of elements like dust, heat, oil, etc. Does it really improve power and mileage?

Simply create a free youtube account on youtube.com and upload it. It will give you an embed link on the video that you uploaded.
