Engine Block Heater

Anybody wondering if you have engine block heater or not? and How do you know if you had it? and What does it really do?

The guys from Calgary and other c-o-l-d places in Canada know from engine block heaters! Also the peeps in Montana (just one example) know about this. Block heaters are options on many cars destined for cold climates. If you live where it routinely gets into single-digit temps, and especially below 0 degrees F, you will be happy you have one! They plug into electrical house current source and heat up the oil in the crankcase so it will flow more easily. Some may also warm your antifreeze, but not sure about that; it's the oil jobbies I've heard about.

Thanks much for the kudo, 'twisted!' In New Jersey even, many years back, we had to bring batteries in once in a while when it dropped to zero or less overnight. One guy I knew would wrap an electric heating pad around his! He had 110 in his garage, so his carry was easy. Yeah, taking these heavy suckers out of our junked-out Fords and Plymouths was a Royal Pain in the Patootie! (aka: A$$!). No more of that sh!t here in de' Souf! Besides, batteries are much better built today (to handle wider temp. swings, among other advantages) than they were back in the '50s-'60s.

Keep smilin'.... someday you'll be old too!
