Help with PQI 4GB SD card

I'm not sure if this is the right area, but I hope someone can help. I just bought a PQI 150x 4GB SD card and when I plugged into my computer, the capacity is only showing as 955 MB. I checked PQI's website and called their tech support, but it didn't really help. I'm thinking I either need to install something so Windows will recognize the full capacity or there's a problem with the card and it's not really 4GB. Does anyone have a PQI flash memory card that has heard of this?

I think this should be in the Technology forum, but I'll see if I can help anyway.

Try putting in the SD card and looking at it in My Computer. Right click the "drive" and go to Format. It should show you the capacity of the SD card (which should be around 3.xx GB in the first drop down box, but check to see if there are other options). You can try formatting it (if there's nothing on there or it will erase anyway), but I'm not sure if it will increase your capacity space. Give it a try and if it doesn't work, give PQI a call or return it for another one. Hope this helps

That's what I did and no matter what it only shows as 955 MB. Oh well, looks like it might be going back.

Where did you buy it from? It may be a fake with a 4gb shell with a 1gb memory inside.

It could either be an issue with the driver that runs your SD card reader or a problem with the card itself. Do you have another computer and reader you can test the card on? That should tell you for sure.

I've heard of scams like this but I wasn't too concerned since I got it from Newegg. They're a great company and I've never had any problems with them.

It turns out it was the computer I first tested the card on. I was getting 955 MB on a work laptop but when I connected it to mine and reformatted, it showed as 3.72 GB. That's about right for a 4 GB card so I'm relieved. I put some music on it this morning and and it worked fine in my navi on the way to work. :)

PQI is a cheap crappy brand. I used to work at frys electronics, and had nothing but trouble with returns on pqi. When it came time to get a 4GB chip for my car, i bought a patriot high speed 4gb CF, not sd. It reads the full chip fine. Usually its a compatibility issue with the chip and reader.

The card's been fine since I reformatted on my personal laptop. It shows as 4 gigs and plays in my navi fine. I know it's not the best brand out there but as long as it does the job, I'm happy with it.
