the transponder is connected to the circuit board in your key, but i believe its only reason for being connected is so that it programs the remote functions while it programs the transponder. theoretically you should be able to remove it without issue, the only thing you might need to do is connect a wire as an antenna to the transponder. but the immobilizer transponders require no power source to function.

it shouldnt need to be rewired.

what you could and probably should do is cut your valet key open and take the transponder chip out of that

i was just thinking about that... i wonder how much it costs to get a key programmed... im gonna call the dealership really quickly.

edit: they said 48$ to reprogram a key... that's a little too rich for my blood just for a key.

i'll probably just end up rewiring it like the fellas at the other forum.

This RDX key looks to allow for a direct drop in replacement with the civic internals (less the panic button). Is that true or do we still have the problem with relocating the transponder?

thats not an rdx key, thats just a generic flip key blank made to take the internals of our keys

Great! (I think).

So would the internals of our key just drop right in? No transponder relocating involved?

Well, if our immobilizer/transponder isn't setup like the UK civics, we might not have to. But the margin between the transponder working and not working is little since the movement is only a few centimeters.

How much does Honda charge just to cut a key like ours?

depends on the dealer, some call it a hour labor and charge the hourly rate, others have it as a flat rate thing

Free sounds good haha. I hope they don't try to make me pay to get it reprogrammed since there is none needed. Hopefully they cut a none OEM key also.

im not sure, the dealerships have a very specialized machine just for cutting the "sidewinder" blanks, and they had to take the electronics off my RDX key when they cut it. This ebay key looks like the key will have to sit even taller in the machine so they might have a problem with it.

FYI: If you're in the Bay Area, Oakland Acura has 20% off all parts, which has the MDX keys for $41.34.

Oakland Acura Oakland California

I'll try to get a screenshot of the price, but the estore.honda.com website sucks balls!!
