I guess I'll restate the solution.

TL Key = Not Compatible

RDX Key (Same key as TL w/o trunk button) = Yes, it is compatible

TL is only compatible with Tier 1 and 2 keys (RSX, TSX, 7th Gen Accord, 7th gen Civics)

8th Civics = Tier 6 key

RDX Key = Tier 6 key

The RDX conversion sounds good for DX/LX civics who do not have the power trunk button or w/e it is call. You can still do the RDX conversion on EX and Si but you will lose out on the trunk button.

On the side note:

Same shape yes.

But no point in switching the top piece.

The RDX does not have the trunk button built into it.

Swapping the top case with the TL key will not work.

It's all good. I really wanted the TL key badly.

But unfortunately were out of luck.

If only the RSX and Civic can switch place.

They take the RDX key (since they do not have trunk button feature anyway) while we take the TL key.

Okay so let me be clear:
If I have an '08 LX Sedan, I can pick up an RDX keyfob, have the blank cut and transponder programmed by a honda/acura dealer, and program the remote myself using the lock/unlock progression, and then everything will work? and if you have an EX or Si, everything will work except trunk release, b/c no trunk release on the RDX keyfob??

Or do you have to take the RDX key, have it cut, and swap out the internals from the civic key you already have?

How does this differ from the MDX key? Is it the MDX key that works?

So the MDX key works, but the trunk release doesn't, and he RDX key works, but keyfob doesnt have a trunk release button at all?

Does the Panic button work on either of these?

So I read this whole thread (very interesting) and it sounds like the RDX will work for me since I have an '08 LX. I'm just not sure I understand the reprogramming procedure. Can anyone clarify?
