What requires alignment after work

Hey folks,

I was wondering what jobs usually require a front end alignment after the job is accomplished?

Some examples:

- a strut replacement
- tie rod end replacement
- ball joint replacement
- CV Joint
- wheel bearing

Thanks!

Not always. It depends on suspension design. With the older accords and civics that had the multi-link front suspension and the front strut that had the fork at the end that mounted to the lower control arm did not necessarily require an alignment after replacing the strut. The only 2 jobs that absolutely require an alignment after completion are your inner and outer tie rods.

This question is only answerable based on what model and year of the vehicle.

For our Civics if you replace the front struts, inner or outer tie rod, Steering rack, rear lower control arms, rear upper control arms or parts similar to that.

Also, you pretty well can't do your own alignments can you?

Probably best left for the shops. My question, I suppose, is if you replaced your own strut would it be alright to take your car to the shop on another day?

Ya most definently.....The car may pull and/or the steering wheel may be off-centered a little but itll be fine. Just dont wait to long or you might end up damaging your tires by causing them to wear improperly.

Setting the toe yourself isn't very difficult. If you are capable of replacing your own strut, then you can probably set the toe yourself. You just need a tape measure and some flat plates, or even string. Then measure across the car in front and behind the wheel. The difference is the toe out or toe in. If you get it down to 1/8" or less by turning the tie rods, then you won't have to worry as much about abnormal tire wear. If your steering wheel is turned to one side, then you adjust one tie rod more than the other to bring it straight again. Setting the camber or castor yourself requires more equipment and an extremely flat floor to work off of.
