Dentrecords' take on cleared headlights

What I did differently than most of the other jobs I've seen is I left the amber reflector in (to keep it road legal) and I also painted the black shroud silver to match my car. I've got some chromed signal bulbs on the way from http://superlumination.com for now.

I followed 06blaksi's excellent guide on how to remove the headlights here:

DIY Bumper and Headlight Removal

My thoughts the project are that it was definitely not something I'd recommend for the feint of heart, you really need to pry the lights apart, and they are pretty hot when you take them out of the oven. If you don't follow the instructions from fgcoupe.com (http://www.fgcoupe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=257) you could really badly screw your headlights up, and that's not very cool, so watch the video at least a couple of times before hand, make sure you do your prep work carefully and thoroughly and just take your time.

good job on going custom,

in the past, people wanted black housing headlights and now they are doing the opposite lol.

I know what you mean about the reflectors, but I didn't have much choice. If I ever need to sell the car, or a police officer decides to harass me and nitpick at everything on my car, I could receive a potential fine for not having a roadworthy car (just from taking the reflectors off... yes, that's right) and have my car impounded.

Yes, my rad is silver as well. Not sure if that's a difference between CDM and USDM cars or not, but I've also got heated mirrors.

If the cop is being a total dick (I've heard local stories) they can deem the car not roadworthy as it doesn't meet safety requirements, and have it towed... I was thinking of ways to illuminate the amber halos (probably a few white leds)... not sure that I want to open the lights up again, though!

hmm... on further inspection looks like the rad is silver, and there's another rad in front of it.. for the oil?

I've got 2 rads on my bike, 1 for coolant, 1 for oil.. I imagine this is the same thing.

I blame the fit. I still like black housings though. It looks mean on a FBP.

Condensor is correct, the only oil that might get cooled is the tranny oil and that would run at the bottom of the radiator.

If anyone else does this I'm super interested in seeing how this looks on another color, especially if you say painted the plastic bits red for a red car etc.
