DIY:Ipod Custom Mount

This is for a 2010 Honda Civic LX-S
02 Jan 2010---Hard wired this tuneflex ipod dock so that it can be hooked up to the factory 12 volt outlet

Drilled hole out bigger to accommodate the power wires.

Added a switch with blue led. Then testing it out before installing in the Civic.

Cut out the panel to accommodate the dock.It goes in the place of the pocket behind the shifter.

Cut out for the dock and switch today.Snapped the cover from the shifter off to see how it fit.Taking the four hex head screws out that holds the pocket on.Not using this ,but using the screws for later to mount the new panel.Need to round the edges off a little more.Looking good so far.

Got the vinyl this week and got my stuff together to cover it.Hd staple gun, hammer, razer knife, contact cement, brush, heat gun.

Started on one of the long sides and worked my way around.Heated the corners up a bit to help stretch it.

Finished covering, and it turned out pretty good.

Cut some slits For the switch and the dock.Using an O-ring for trim around the dock.

Had to stretch the o-ring a bit to make it fit snug.Covers up the blimishes.

Got some picture hangers and bent them to mount the panel .

Mounted the wiring for the dock with ring loop holder.

Prewired the connection I will be using. This will be hooked up to the power outlet. No cutting of factory wire.

Hooking up the connections to the power outlet.

Using the existing 3.5 connection from factory.I may still want to use my Ipod out of the dock .
End result,Jamming to some Rush.

One more picture.

Love it, particularly the creative use of the O-ring for really nice fit-and-finish.

that actually blends in really nice.. do you have any trouble with the iPod staying put when you take a corner really hard/slam on the brakes/hit a pot-hole/etc?

also, do you have any way of changing tracks besides using the iPod control?
