All the way down without the locking nut makes it HARD to shift, at least in comparison to a slightly longer throw axis. I prefer actually putting that lock nut all the way in the shifter...it sits a little too low, but the shifts are short and crisp without being hard to shift into the next gear.

Just finished installing the base and cable bushings...def remove the center console it made it a lot easier...and those pins on the oem rubber cable bushings were mad annoying to take off...i just twisted them till they broke...overall easy install and very satisfied with the results

I did the cable bushing first but couldn't tell there was a big difference. After i installed the whole kit SS and bushing( luckily i didn't run in any kinds of trouble...didn't have to take the center console of) the shift is shorter but the shift has to be more firm and there's sort of difference when putting it in reverse.

I have installed the Cable Bushings, SS and base bushings about 6 months ago and it does shift more positive. It's not that much shorter in my opinion but it is a more cripser shift. In my opinion it doesn't take much effort at all to shift gears and there is no difference in reverse.

Personally, if I would do it again I would get the cable bushings and the short shifter but forget about the base bushings. They were a pain to install and I don't think really do all that much.

No, not really. The cable bushings will probably be worth it down the line when the stock rubberbushings wear out but since the car is pretty new there will not be much of a difference switching them now and the base bushings are already steel reinforced and I really don't see a need for them. The short shifter does make shifts more positive in my opinion and is well worth the investment. You can always just start with the SS by itself (which is easy to install) and then get the bushings later if you want.

i would get the cable bushings atleast. it makes the shifter 'snap' into gears more easily, if that makes any sense. i didnt buy the base bushings so i cant comment on that.

I just wanted to emphasize that you should remove the console. It takes 2 minutes.

There are 6 attachment points:

Two screws in the armrest compartment. You have to pull up the rubber mat to see them.

Two screws that you see when you remove the shifter bezel.

Two push pins in the footwells. Get them with a flathead screwdriver. The driver side pin is visible, to get the passenger side you have to pull off the lower dash panel. It pulls right off.

I didn't even try to do it without removing the console, and I can tell I saved a lot of time.

I used the cup removal tool for the initial install. I didn't want to bend the plastic, so I put that on over the metal and put a wrench behind it and used that as a pivot. Worked out perfect.

That's actually a great idea, I've started doing the same for these installs. We'll add that to the install manual to avoid damaging the plastic cup.

Just installed twm short shifter.Holy ****berg the shifts are sweet if u want to save $ the short shift will do. i installed the base bushing and shifter bushing. Last week put in amsoil tran fluid had 21.000km and 3rd was getting tough to go in sometimes.Amsoil made a big diffrence!!!.But with the short shifter it is orgasmic.
