Intake stupidity????

OK, I have a 2007 Si & I do want to increase the intake flow without increasing the exhaust sound....having already done all my former Camaro Z28's mods (when I was still able). I was considering this idea in my tiny little mind...& if this has been proposed before, I apologize in advance (I tried a search)!

My idea is this: Replace the drop in stock filter with a K&N, cut a 4" round hole into the bottom of the stock intake box & rivet a 4" washer Duct intake (such as this: Lambro Industries at Lowe's: 4" x 5' UL Transition Duct Vent Kit), run the lower intake into a position of lower air inflow box & have the lower end secured near the bottom of the vehicle.

I don't see a problem with water-lock (due to the intake being pointed down & the stock intake being operable). Is this a dumb idea or has anybody tried it yet? Any potential problems seen with this idea?
Thanks!
Doug

You can buy a kit from an autoparts store made of plastic just like that.

its been done. no hydro-lock issues unless you manage to submerge your car in water deep enough to get in through your doors

Why not just reuse the intake port on the bottom front of the stock box and re-route to the front of the car instead of the resonator in the fender well?

Doug, I am having a hard time visualizing this. Are you going to keep the stock cold air tubing and then add an additional duct/hose at the very bottom of the base of the airbox? If you do that, I would try and pull air either from the front of the vehicle or the fenderwell area.

On another note, I would give serious consideration to the Amsoil dry type drop in filter that should outflow the K&N which is an oiled type of filter. AMSOIL Ea Synthetic Nanofiber Air Filter (EaA)

I would be glad to help out any way I can. Here is a link to the Mother thread I did on intakes, both aftermarket and DIY. You should be able to get some ideas from that thread. http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/bolt-...iscussion.html

Thanks Bill!
I just don't have the mobility to get into the routing of the intake anymore. I also have limited resources to build the upper air box to house a cone filter...much less make it look like a show piece! Old Age sucks, avoid it at all costs!
Thanks!
Doug

Hey bro, I am 57. I know all about getting older. I wish I could avoid it LOL. Anyway, best wishes on your intake. Let us know how it goes.

Bill had said he was going to try the K&N Apollo Universal system to me once, so I bit the bullet & gave it a shot!!

Without the tools for rebuilding the MAF housing, etc...I tried the next best thing. I installed a Takeda #1004P, SRI mounted with a K&N Apollo filter using the Honda stock resonator box & cold air intake system. Being an old fart, it took me 6hrs (for a 90-min job) & am planning my interior sound reduction to someone more able than myself!

Anyway, pics & dynos to follow...not being a Folgers kinda guy, this thing screams but I want to hear my tunes. So, the next thing is to dampen the outside noise!

Thanks for your help Bill!
