Is there a grill removal DIY?

I have searched and search and came up with nothing.

So I ended up going out to the car to investigate. Now I know that I have to remove the bumper to remove the grill(for Si) So my grill removal will have to wait till this weekend!

do this first:
theres a DIY somewhere, but im too lazy to look for it.

and assuming your trying to remove the "boomerang" part?

tools-
#4 or 5 allen wrench
phillips screwdriver 1/4in?
flathead screw driver.

1- pop hood
2- look at the top of the radiator cover, there's 2 cap thingys that u have to wedge a flathead under and gently pry up. WIth the middle popped up, just tug upwards and itll come out. CAreful- dont burn yourself.

3- there should be 2 domish looking caps off to the sides, where the it holds the radiator cover to the sides. The only way i can describe these SOB's is that they have flexible plastic teeth grooves. and are about inch and a half long. You Pullem out, and chances are they wont be re-usable anyways. U can try to pull these out, but in my efforts i could not, so i just cut them. Bought some at the dealership. Or you dont really have to replacem at all..

4- Lift up hood handle, and slide off the radiator cover, this may require soem jiggling at the sides.

5- next there are 2 black bolts that can be removed with a hex key. relatively simple. now, if you noticed the entire back grille ( the black part ) and the bumper is actually one piece.

6- with the hex botls removed, u can now "fold" the grille to the front. If you look Behind the grille, u will see NUMEROUS screw/bolts holdin teh grille to the bumper. Remove each one, try not to burn self on radiator. on my LX, they were bolts, and i needed to use a freakin wrench to get those nuts off. I think on the Si it may not be bolts but screws, *shrug* same concept, different tools. Im sure youll figure it out.

7- once all bolts/screw/nuts are off, there are 4 little "clips" that hold the grille to the bumper, gently try to urge these, but most likely they will break, with little to no force at all.

8- then just pull outwards( towards the front of the car ), and the grille will come off.

im tired of typing so if you need to know how to remove the emblem, just search for it..

Well it looks like I probably will have to take of the bumper. I did remove the radiator plastic cover and removed the two hex bolts. Then I saw the four screws holding the grill to do bumber. I flexed it a bit but not enought space to get a tool down there to remove the screws.
The bumper looks esy to remove so I will do that, plus it will give me practice for the CAI when get it.

It's quite possible that the caps you pop off for the black plastic cover will break. Order a couple of them online or via your local dealership just in case.

I swear someone has posted a DIY of this with pics somewhere.

Well if u can devise a way to remove those clips without breaking them id like to hear it. In all the other DIY write-ups i noticed they just said remove them vertically, well no duh you remove them vertically, i mean opposed to what? Horizontally? Point im trying to make is everyoen just says take them out. Noone says How To. Its not as simple as it seems. You yank it out, then it pretty much screws up all the flanges on the clip. reinserting it would be pretty much just be inserting plastic rods. Besides, they arnt really that important.

The only other thign u can break is the tiny double clips whcih attach the grille to the bumper, i just pushed too hard. If you gently persuade them one at a time, theres no issue. But again, even if you break them, its no biggie, its not like theyre vital to its structural integrity.

Do a search for foglight and horn removal. I have seen step by step in removing the front bumber to install foglight and horn.

I didn't break any of the plastic clips. I wonder why people are having so much trouble...

Flat heat, pop, done. Mine may have been bathed in Kryptonite or something...the push clips are in HORRID shape on mine (some were scraped underneath my car...)

well see the clips are easy, just grab a flathead and pry up the little centers.

the little buggers that get me everytime are the ones without the centers, and i dont have one of those nifty tools that are shaped like a BBQ fork.

you say youu used a heater? i dont see how it'd help pry the suckers out

Well the two clips the are on the outside of the rediator cover are the hardest to take off. I just took a flathead screwdriver and popped off. The passenger side one was alot harder. Had to attack it with two flathead screwdrivers, one from each side. I thought I broke it since it flew up in the air once it popped out. But once I found it it was still good.

Grill work in progress

This time the crap ass clips without the center thingy were in a good mood and popped out with ease.

I just finished fabricating a custom component to replace "the boomerang". It looks sweet ass! Much more slim and profile with the car. Given more time and a bigger availability of materials, i coulda made a better looking one. But when your stuck with Home Depot and Walmart..you gotta improvise.

I got home today and my projectors were sitting on my porch.
So tommorrow after work, i shall begin fabricating the new front grille. As well as painting and sanding everything. Install the lights, and hopefully by tommorrow night, all shall be completed.

One thing im stuck on: Should I paint the grille mesh black? or leave it silver?
Keep in mind that my car is Silver too..
