Mobil 1 in Si = Happy Si
So here is the deal:
I had 4300miles on my Si when I hit 15% on the oil life indicator. Went to the dealer and asked for Mobil 1. They put in approx 5qts of 5w-30. My first impressions: 1) The car runs quieter than before. 2) The car runs smoother. I had read online that some thought their cars were louder after a mobil 1 change....not here. I definitely recommend Mobil 1 for the first oil change. |

^Good to know. Was going to do the same when my first oil change comes up. Have 2000 more miles to go however. Ran Mobil 1 or Amsoil in my previous cars and thought it made a difference. I intend on keeping this Si for a very long time so the investment is worth it in the long run!

I was told by the shop manager at the Honda dealership I bought my SI from that it's ok to go Synthetic for the first oil change. I plan on following his advice. Mobil 1 Synthetic...

I'm using Motul 300v 5w/30 and the car runs like a dream. I'm on my second oil change w/ 5q Motul, Mobil1 filter, spoon drain plug. Car loves it. Very smooth, responsive, and hey! Runs one bar cooler than dino!

Heh, I love 'dealership advice'. Reading through several of these threads 'Synthetic oil' threads we have the following:
"My dealer suggests/recommends" ...not to change to Synthetic until after 10K ...not to change to Synthetic until at least 15K ...not to change to Synthetic until at least 5K ...not to change to Synthetic until after the first oil change ...not to change to Synthetic until after the second oil change ...DONT USE SYNTHETIC, only use Honda oil or you'll void your warranty ...only use Honda oil ...don't change it yourself or you'll void your warranty ...start with a synthetic blend, then move to full synthetic on your next oil change (I think this is my personal favorite 'easing in synthetic, lol) ...change to synthetic any time you want, but don't change back ...change to synthetic any time you want ...so on and so forth Many of these 'my dealer said' statements are quickly followed by the inevitable "My (blah blah) is ASE certified/Hond certified so they so know what they are talking about". Hmmm...since there is no way they can all 'know what they are talking about' given the vastly differing 'suggestions' I suggest you do your own research, and make your own decisions as to the use of synthetic in your car. |
