Diy ss

Do it yourself short shifter. Yea, I know sounds dumb.

4 1/2 inch pull center to center

3 1/4 inch pull center to center

How about that. 1 1/4 inches. I actualy had a good idea......That worked.

I will most likely do a full diy on this thing when I have better stuff to work with for now Ill try it on the Dragon. And tell everyone how it works.

Not to mention this + a real short shifter would be an amazingly short throw.

Went to the gap on the 22 and it worked amazing.

this is not a diy but it looks like he got a shift knob that sits lower.

A lower knob and a short shift adapter really make for shorter crisper shifts...

Well I was going to do a better one down the road but I will get a REAL diy done as fast as possible.

I took two 3/4 inch thick mdf boards drilled them out with a hole-saw,

glued the two peices togeather, sanded the sides flat with a spindle sander,

drilled the right size hole to fit over the shift shaft,

drilled a hole for the nut from the shaft to fit in,

painted it and put it on. I drove deals gap with it and it worked amazing.

Ok here we go.

Worked until 1 in the morning for something that most people wont even like or do.

Things youll need.

I used 3/4 inch Mdf.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0398.jpg

A hole-saw. Its all about how wide you want to make the shifter.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0395.jpg

Clamps.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0396.jpg

A good-ol-drillbity set.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0397.jpg

A paddle bit or a bit like this.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0402.jpg

A drill and or a drillpress and glue.

Now youll need some other stuff but that will come later.

Take your mdf and drill it out with the holesaw. Two or three holes depending want your shifter to look, I did three.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0406.jpg

Sand off any burrs the saw left.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0409.jpg

Glue the pieces together.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0412.jpg

Clamp them all together.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0413.jpg

Let them sit for about 10 to 15 minutes to dry then sand the sides so all of them line up.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0427.jpg

Skip the next step unless you are going to shape your shifter.

Get a power drill and a lag or cut-off screw of some sort.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0431.jpg

Screw it into a predrilled hole in the mdf(or it will crack it).

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0428.jpg
http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0429.jpg

Use a piece of sand paper or a sanding block to sand the shifter down to any shape you want, by drilling back and forth on the sand paper.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0430.jpg

Drill using a 5/8 paddle bit in the top of the shifter deep enough for the nut to fit in.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0436.jpg

Drill using a 11/16 paddle bit for the head of the nut to fit in.(Dont have a pic but just deep enough to look like this)

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0437.jpg

Drill out the bottom up to about a half inch from the nut hole you just drilled using the big bit in the begining of the thread.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0432.jpg
http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0433.jpg

I added this because I thought it looked better.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0438.jpg

And add washers to add weight and make it sit at the right height.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0440.jpg

This is what it should look like.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0441.jpg

Shorter than stock and a shorter throw.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0444.jpg
Stock height.

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0445.jpg
After.

Paint it whatever color you want and your done.

Black

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0446.jpg

3rd

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0451.jpg

4th

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o...X/IMAG0452.jpg

K done.
