Chrome bar removal solution?

Hey guys. I have an 09 PMM sedan si and it has the stupid and ugly and tacky and ... well you know what i mean chrome bar in the back of the car. Does anyone know of a solution to get rid of it? The best option would be to order an 08 part of that back and be able to unscrew the chrome and replace it with the matched colored piece but i don't even know if that would fit and work in the first place. nor is there a PMM color in the 08 series so i'd probably be screwed anyways. doh! worst case scenario would be we have to get our hands dirty and sand that chrome piece down and repaint it? i don't even know how feasible that is or how the outcome would come down to. any thoughts anyone?

probably has screws inside the trunk holding it in. you dont need to sand that. you can buy adhesive promotor for plastic. thats like primer and helps paint stick to it.
