DIY K&N Drop in Filter cleaning and reoiling

Hey guys, I needed to clean my K&N filter and decided to do a DIY. Well here goes......
First Remove your K&N filter.
This is what it will look like when is get dirty.
You may want to drop the filter on the ground to get anything lodged between the groves out.
This is the clean side.

This is the dirty side.

Now get the cleaning solution and spray generously on the filter. Both sides.

Let it sit for a good 5 to 10 min.
Then rinse with tap water. (Do not use high pressure to rinse, it will ruin the filter).

Repeat as needed to make sure its clean.

Let it air dry. (Do not use a air compressor or a hair dryer to dry it.)
I use an electric fan to dry it.
Then get the oil.

Now here is the important part to remember so you will not over oil. Spray the oil on the dirty side of the filter only.

Spray evenly.
Let it sit for about 5 to 10 min.
Flip the filter over to the clean side and check to see if the oil covered the other side. If it has not then apply some more oil to the dirty side again.
The clean side should look like this when its fully oiled.

Then just reinstall you filter and your done.
The whole process is time consuming, but well worth it.

It does give the car allitle more pep in the take off. MPG wise about 1 or 2 more. I like it because I don't need to buy another filter again. Glad you like my DIY. Although this is for my 8th Gen accord but its the same process. Thanks......

I really noticed no difference at all with the K&N Drop-in installed. No power gain, no MPG gain, and no noise difference. I decided to ditch it and install the Injen CAI. The only reason to buy this would be to save money on replacement filters.

Then you are not paying attention closely. it does give more HP and MPG. ive noticed engine is more quieter. and gives bit of torque due to better air flow.
like the other guys said it improves "A BIT". you can really tell the difference from stock. CAI will give u more though. still a good buy for me its worth it if u dont have the budget to get a CAI. and one more thing pair it with ENEOS OIL.

K&N + ENEOS OIL (2-20W) + SHELL V-POWER(91 octane) =more TORQUE ( JUST A BIT) enough to tell the difference. and its good for ur engine.

Thanks for the DIY. I just put a new K&N in yesterday.

And you barely feel a difference with the filter, and it's ever so slightly louder; and that's from a dirty filter.

I think most people who praise replaceable parts and fluids are mostly getting the placebo effect, as usually the change is done when it's needed. You'll feel the biggest difference with a K&N air filter if you're coming from a dirty filter; same thing with oil if you change the oil when it's due.

I didn't notice any change in speed or noise (but I'm not one of those people who drive their cars hard). I did notice a pretty good increase in mpg tho; averaging around 32 before the filter, and 36 with. Of course, that's going from a dirty filter to a clean one, but even so, it's a significant gain.
