Diy flip key!!!!

actually the diy is on civinfo.com. jsut look up flip key
i use that diy to do it
but its fairly simple....sorry i dont have pics didnt have a camera with me. it was spur of the moment.
tools needed:
15w soldering iron with a fine tip or a soldering station with temperature control w/ fine tip [ 15 watts is all u need ]
an x-acto knife
a precision screwdriver
flux
solder
super glue or an adhesive
30 awg wire
ebay flip key case
the helping hand [ the one with two arms with alligator clips and a magnifyling glass ]
if u dont know how to solder small board
check out Curious Inventor - Guides : How to Solder

1. take the spare fob that you dont use.
2. open up the case and dismantle the insides
3. take the e-board and locate the tranponder..[ if you didnt know, its the small rectangle shape chip near the lock button ]NOTE:keep in mind of the polarity of the chip,.. in other words, make sure u know which side is which
4. the transponder is glued and soldered to the board. so take the board and put it on the helping hand, use the soldering iron to heat up the solder on the chip and while doin that, use the x-acto knife to pry up the side NOTE: do one side at a time so u wont break it
5. after removing the transponder, check the board to see if anything is damaged or what not.
6.apply small amount of flux to the existing contacts [ the contacts the chip came off of ] and then proceed to apply a small amount solder to the contacts .
7. tin the wire that u plan on using for project
8. solder the wire to the board then the wire to the chip
{ to test before placing in the case , take the new assembly u just made and the old key fob u took it from [ dont put it back inside the case, just do it from the oustide of it] and try to start you car with it. if it work then awesome but if it dont then keep your work and make sure u didnt mix up the polarities or burn the board. }
9. carefully place the transponder in the designated area in the case, making sure not to damage the wiring.
10. secure the chip with some super glue or an adhesive ( i just use super glue to hold it down ]
11. put the case back to together and screw it in . NOTE: make sure u turn the spring inside so the key can flip out , i used one turn to do so but whatever your preference.
12. get the key cut and ENJOY!:dance :

doesn't sound too hard. sounds like all you have to do is move that transponder to the new fob and you're pretty much set. I'm not sure that ebay fob looks cool enough for warrant that much work but thanks for the info!!!

NEW Folding Remote KEY CASE for HONDA Accord Civic CR-V on eBay.ca (item 280366669891 end time 29-Apr-10 07:32:20 EDT)

does this work with 09 civic? since this has 3 buttons and my current remote only supports 2 can i move the lock/unlock buttons to the new one and keep the trunk one as a place holder? also this one will also require soldering?

does 09 civic only need key cut or also programming?

No soldering should be necessary, as you're transferring the internals to the new key.

The ONLY thing you need to do is get the key cut.

^you need to move the transponder closer to the key. That is why you need to remove and solder. The transponder has to be a certain distance from the actual key or it won't start.

This should work if you only have unlock/lock Folding Remote Key Case for Honda Accord CRV Civic FLIP on eBay.ca (item 180474721288 end time 28-Apr-10 09:58:02 EDT)

and this one should work if you have lock/unlock + panic FLIP Folding Key Remote for HONDA Accord Civic CR-V on eBay.ca (item 260473725981 end time 05-May-10 11:56:42 EDT)

Look at this picture on the first ebay key you did

You see where the transponder goes? That means you have to take the transponder off the key and connect wires to it and place it in that spot.

This tells you exactly what to do and why:

I just did my key last night. Its a cool little project. It took about 2 hours to do but you need to be very careful not to break the transponder.

@Maximus: You need to heat up the ends but you do need to move from end to end. You can't keep the heat on one side for to long or you will melt the chip.

That is the one i have and yes you will have to move the chip. The key needs to be cut.

You soldering Iron is good enough...just need to move the heat arround both points while trying to insert a exacto knives inbetween the chip and board.

The only way to do this is by having a helping hand...the thing with the magnifying glass on top. All i did was heat one side melt the sod...move to the other side.....than little by little stick the blade between the two parts.

Once the blade id a little in you need to star trying to pry off the chip....you need to lift on the side little by little....the key is not to melt the chip.

And yes it looks and works perfectly!!!
